I don't use Deliveroo, and similar companies, due to how they treat their delivery riders - gig economy, little or no training and happy for them to use illegal vehicles etc.  If they employed them, provided them vehicles, lights, paid the London Living Wage and the like I would think differently.  Both the Tory and Labour government ignore this, but good on Louise Haigh for calling out P&O for their employment record.

Just let me check Bob, you did want a political lecture?  If so I am your person, and it is free of charge on this forum, although in the pub you'd need to get me a drink.

malumbu, you seem to be of a character that would chip in with your views regardless of there being a drink involved...

Why does everything have to become a political discussion?

Thanks - I usually go to EDT, CPT, or The Castle. If going out of ED then The Gowlett. Or the Traf in Greenwich if going further afield.

    • Suggest you contact the Young Lewisham Project (https://www.younglewishamproject.com) and see if they have an old bike you can have. Otherwise keep an eye on Freecycle (https://www.freecycle.org) as bikes often given away on there. Hope this helps
    • Does anyone have an update on where one can recycle things like electrical cables in the East Dulwich area? Thanks!
    • The price of some things seems to be volatile. I think there must be a spike in international chocolate markets or some such. Sainsbury’s recently increased the price of both Club and Penguin biscuits from £1.60 to £2.00 a pack in one hit, so a 25% rise.
    • Well said. I don't think much of that post office's business is Mrs Miggens withdrawing £7.34 in cash from her pension because she can't be doing with the new-fangled computers. That's a stereotype. I'm terminally online and digital but when you're dealing with physical objects (like bloody parcels or cash!) sometimes you need to drop them off and pick them up from somewhere. That's especially true for international items. I don't want to do that at Tesco or Ken's Korner Kabin where you have to piss around with some deadbeat courier's app which never works, and where you can't yet the courier on the phone and the poor guy in the shop doesn't know how to fix it and is only being paid 13p for the transaction. I don't want a million white vans being driven up and down the same street every day by insecure workers in the gig economy being paid peanuts. I want to drop my stuff off and pay the fee at my local post office, and I want my stuff to be delivered by my brilliant friendly postie who knows me and my neighbours and where to leave stuff safely. And judging by the huge queues out the door at Lordship Lane PO it seems there are plenty of people who end up coming to the same conclusion. Rant over...for now.
