ydrmdy
I came across a father with a very young child coming up limesford road, which is currently a one way road due to the Nunhead cemetery wall reconstruction. The lights were green for me, so I continued to go down Limesfoed, the guy shouted at me, like I was in the wrong. Are cyclist allowed to take the roads, by jumping lights, despite being given government safety? I see this everyday. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351729-cycles-jumping-lights/ Share on other sites
malumbu
Your post is a little confusing, what were the father and child doing? For balance I cycled along Brenchley Gardens a couple of Sundays ago in the evening, there was a long line of cars coming towards Forest Hill Road, one car decides to overtake the whole line driving perhaps 60mph or more. This cyclist had to get out of the speeding car's way. On Friday I was walking on the same road. There were two electric bikes, looking like small trails motorbikes. No lights, no helmets, no registration plates, no doubt no insurance. Traveling well above the 20mph speed limit, weaving in and out of the cars, then came back the other way doing the same, and then returned for a further go. Perhaps re-title the thread as inconsiderate road users, rather than yet another thread complaining about cyclists. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351729-cycles-jumping-lights/#findComment-1681455 Share on other sites
jazzer
A couple of Saturdays ago, I almost got wiped out by a white Uber cab as I was crossing Forest Hill Road to Brenchley Gardens, the Uber came out of no where from Brenchley, it was inches away from hitting me, how it missed I have no idea, one life lost. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351729-cycles-jumping-lights/#findComment-1681479 Share on other sites

Is it possible that the lights were out of phase so that the cyclist did in fact go through a green light but the lights at the car end changed to green before the cyclist reached the end of the road? malumbu
Most of the time when I see daft things on the road I shrug my shoulders, think of zen/karma and get on with my day. I'm not compelled to post on social media. Although I spent an hour or two around Dulwich today although sadly didn't see anything exciting. A coach let me turn right into Lordship Lane, and then a car driver let me on the other side. I thanked both and we shared a smile. Perhaps I should start a thread up about road users behaving well Edited to add, I cycled twice through Dulwich Square, I didn't see any speeding bikes coming into conflict with pedestrians. Probably an unusual day. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351729-cycles-jumping-lights/#findComment-1681585 Share on other sites
Spartacus
Fascinating A pedestrian starts a thread about bad cyclists jumping a red light and the cyclists jump on it to say how bad car drivers are Malumbu, you are so often the one starting the them and us rethoric rather than accepting there are bad riad users in both categories. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351729-cycles-jumping-lights/#findComment-1681588 Share on other sites

I don't believe it. This place is a veritable Las Vegas de nos jours of conspiracy, corruption and high speed bicycle chases, or so I've been told on here. malumbu
Funnily enough I had had a close pass, quite slow on the South Circ, but it had washed over me. And tempting fate some driver on a side road this evening hit about 60mph so I had to get out of the way. We had a pleasant exchange of words. But no point in starting yet another thread on abusive road users. But no point in starting yet another thread on abusive road users. The thing is, it's not about "cyclists" or "drivers", is it? It's about some people's lack of consideration for other people and disregard of the "rules", or perhaps just being in a bubble where they are unaware of what is happening around them - or are aware but don't care. Or are angry about something else, or just generally angry. Those things presumably don't just affect their behaviour when cycling or driving, but they do affect other people directly and potentially more dangerously in those situations. I appreciate that it's tempting to vent one's wrath on here and elsewhere about particular incidents you have witnessed or which have affected you, and I've done it myself, but it's not going to change anything, is it? What "causes" some people to be like that in the first place is a whole other issue, of course .... Rockets
On my journey to work today at every red light cyclists jumped the lights. They did not kill or injure anyone. They were not killed or injured by anyone. But if they had been killed or injured whilst jumping the red light then that would be used to defend bad cycling by saying cars kill and injure more people than bikes do. Penguin68
At the Woodvale junction with Forest Hill Road I observed a cyclist who swerved out of my lane and into the oncoming lane and then turned right across the junction into Forest Hill Road (against a red light) without breaking his (considerable, for a cycle) pace. It was an immensely stupid action, but he got away with it, as drivers avoided him. One day he won't, and then he'll be another tragic statistic. And someone (the driver who hit him) will be traumatised by the event, forever (probably) blaming themselves for hitting him. As anyone would, whoever was 'to blame'. Probably an unusual day. Dulwich Junction is a nightmare at the moment for pedestrians. There is a temporary cycle lane that cuts through from Carlton Ave and over the crossroad to Turney, As a pedestrian walking from one side of Dulwich Village to the other there is no indication that you are walking across a cycle lane. It's an accident waiting to happen. Whilst these works are going on I think it should be pedestrians only. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/351729-cycles-jumping-lights/#findComment-1681625 Share on other sites
