The sad thing is that, even if they get caught, they will be let off  with nothing more than a verbal warning provided the cost of the items is under £200 - hence the reason for the epidemic of shoplifting that has occurred since this threshold was introduced.

Try shoplifting in other countries, such as the USA, and see how they deal with this crime!

People who buy stolen goods are no better than the thieves

Edited this sounds rather reactionary, however if there was no market for selling stuff on there would be less shoplifting

I was in M&S a while ago, and a whole shelf of what I wanted was empty. I asked if there was any anywhere else.

I was told shoplifters had come in and taken the lot, and apparently nothing can be done about this.

This probably explains why I frequently see empty shelves in M&S, which I always thought was due to poor management.

What is the point of their security person?

What is the point of our current laws around this?

No wonder food prices are constantly rising.

I saw two low lifes fill their backpacks with steaks, expensive meats and alcohol and just walk out.....past those paying at the tills.....laughing.  The law in this country is an ass!

    • No, I was just talking about the corner with the Galleon on. I'm sure there are lots of worse issues, but I thought I would put something on this thread specifically to appeal to anyone who has involvement with it.
    • If you’re talking mess on that corner, I think the dumping of stuff by the old electricity substation Is far worse, especially as it got a 10k greener fund awhile back
    • Alice, are you involved with the business at all?    If not, to anyone who is involved, can we request a tidy up out front? I'm sure there's a reason for the huge delay / total downing of tools, so I don't want to be insensitive... But it's a real eye-sore, a magnet for fly-tipping and the temporary fencing seems to just be a licence to leave a mess on the high street.   Happy to lend a hand if it can be a catalyst to getting the mess off the pavement.
    • Well, Work has clearly restarted after a very long lull.
