NOTE. Please register for rides on Eventbrite so we can limit numbers, link below.

On the 28th Sept we have just one ride, an easy potter downstream along the Thames.

Flat and almost all traffic free or segregated path – a ride for all abilities. Start 10am from Deal Porter Square, next to Canada Water Library and opposite Canada Water station. Possible to join the ride at Cutty Sark, next to the Foot Tunnel, at 10.25. Follow Cycleway 14 to Thames at Greenland Dock, then Thames path to the O2. Some really nice riverside cycle path to enjoy. If things go well could make it as far as the Barrier.  Return inland using Cycleway 4. From Thames path head for Charlton shopping area and join the cycleway there after having a break at Costa. Cycleway 4 is fully segregated almost all the way to Tower Bridge these days. If you have not tried it this is good chance to ride most of it.  Will be back at Canada Water by 1 pm. Ride Leader – Bruce.  Map:  https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1cemvuJ4MjcXfvjD3pXXfIX0tWkAumIU&usp=sharing

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”.
Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe (note there is a lot of shared path on these ride). If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. How to cancel link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/help/en-gb/articles/575010/how-to-cancel-your-free-registration/. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • Alice, you may have nailed one of the issues, which is presumably a key holder who needs to find time to change flyers and so on.   I take on board the issue about free advertising for businesses, but would not put small, very local businesses into the same category as all other businesses. That said, I can see rationale for voluntary and NFP taking precedence, are these organisations actually making use of the boards?
    • The community noticeboards I see are incredibly out of date,  who has the key? anyone step forward?
    • Where to begin? I'm middle class and am quite happy for them to be used for information about voluntary/not for profit/non commercial events, they should not be used as a means of free advertising for businesses, small or otherwise, they are just not large enough.  Commjnity groups do not have the money to advertise to increase awareness of the services they offer. The examples you have given which you would like to see them used for may reflect your own priorities but the community of East Dulwich reflects a much wider range of interests and requirements. The  notice boards were introduced in 2011 when East Dulwich had already gentrified and their purpose discussed in the EDF thread announcing their arrival.
    • The notice boards are a reasonable size, surely there should be room for both types of leaflets, after all we are meant to be a community? Unless space is extremely limited, it feels a little divisive for a councillor to say private businesses cannot post. All businesses are important for the lifeblood of a community too, aren't they?
