On the 7th Sept we have two rides, Jane is going to try again to have a dry Gardens ride and Bruce is going to ride the Elizabeth Line

This ride has proved very popular but has been marred by poor weather and 3 weeks ago was cancelled - very unusual for the Healthy Rides.  Undaunted we are trying again and offering another opportunity to look at some interesting examples of gardens and greenery on a ride from the City to Chelsea, Battersea Power Station & Vauxhall.
Start: 10h00 at Emma Cons Gardens, The Cut, London SE1 8LN (Opposite The Old Vic, near Waterloo Station). Finish: 13h00 at Emma Cons Gardens. Ride Leader Jane C. says: ”A 13 mile ride passing some established parks & gardens, street planting and new landscaping. Should be some lovely stuff to see. Usual mix of cycle ways and quieter streets with some short sections on busier roads and crossings at junctions”. The attached image is to give a general Idea of the route – probably be a bit different in practice. Coffee stop somewhere probably.  Reports from previous rides at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2024/ride-reports-6july2024/ and https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2024/ride-reports-20th-july-2024/

Ride 2, London Bridge to Woolwich and back using Elizabeth Line to Woolwich < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-woolwich-and-back-elizabeth-line-outward-cycling-back-tickets-1006609806027 >
The novelty on this ride is the use of the Elizabeth Line for the outward leg. The Elizabeth Line is the only deep line that allows full size bicycles.  Some delays at lifts, but trains are roomy and will not be crowded on a Saturday morning. And they  take just 13 min from Whitechapel to Woolwich.
Start 9.30 at Southwark Needle (London Bridge) for an estimated 3½ hour round trip with Bruce leading.  Note slightly earlier time than usual. There are 3 stages to the ride. First we will ride to Whitechapel Station. Step free access is from the back entrance on Durward St.  Stage 2 is the Elizabeth Line to Woolwich Arsenal. Bring travel card or equivalent. Stage 3 will be the 9 mile ride back to London Bridge using lots of Thames Path and Cycleway. Short coffee stop during return leg.  Quite a complex ride. Looking for a logistic challenge? This is the ride for you! . Report from 2022, https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/halthy-ride-reports-2022/ride-reports-nov-19th-2022/
Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • It’s good to see local councillors are taking this crash seriously, hopefully the police will also. The tyres marks left on the road suggest speed could have been a factor. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FaPQjGu7x/?mibextid=wwXIfr
    • Why is it a terrible place for teenagers?
    • Well, if you ever find yourself visiting, let us know
    • Before I switched, if memory serves there was some sort of thing on Thames Water's website which you could use to determine whether or not you would be better off with a meter. No idea if it's still there. Also, I have a vague recollection that if you found you were worse off financially with the meter after a certain time period, you could switch back. Have I imagined that? Whatever, I don't actually recall hearing of anyone who thought they were worse off with a meter, though I'm sure there must be some.
