Give him a chance to build his own squad (which hopefully will be shit) then judge.

Man U were not great last season despite winning the title, and they definitely need some fresh blood. They just need to avoid the stupid headline grabbing chases for star players that drag on and stop them doing other business.

Same players that won the Prem under SAF, seem's to indicate they aren't doing it for the manager or everyone has got much better. Moyes isn't up to it and he was SAF choice, maybe shows his judgement was going and he went at the right time.

Several of the players who had a big part in the PL win last year are not contributing this year or are over the hill.

Ferdinand, Evra, Vidic, Giggs & RVP. It was an average team last year with an above average goal scorer.

How anyone can say Moyes isn't up to it at this stage is ridiculous.

Spot on. And what is more Ferguson knew that the club needed to rebuild and bring in fresh blood. Ferguson built several great teams in his time there but at 71 probably felt his time was up and felt the need to pass it on to someone else.

Moyes has not become a bad manager overnight. He will succeed if given the time and resources.

Usually getting the support of the board is a death sentence, but in this case you just get the feeling he's going nowhere.

It would be a waste of time sacking Allardyce now, the ?5m compo can be spent on a new beanpole.

Besides, how long would it take to get a new manager in, probably wouldn't be much transfer window time left (3 weeks after sacking Clarke, WBA are still managerless).

Forget romanticised ideals of playing Academy football, the main priority now is to stay up, and with BFS you have a better chance. Sack him in the summer if you must...

Yes, yes all very nice and pragmatic but a couple of points -

The Premiership is the priority for the financial health of the club and for all those making money out of it but it isn't the be all and end all.

Given a choice between Allardyce and his 'no-nonsense' approach for a few more years just in order to maintain Premier League status and relegation now and a rebuild under someone new I'd take the latter even if it took a few seasons to get it right.

But our board are only after the cash from moving to the Olympic site so if Allardyce succeeds in keeping WH up he probably will stay - and his misery-inducing, spirit-sapping, joyless brand of thugball will persist as 'maintaining' will be the object and no more - so sacking him in the summer isn't an option unless we're relegated and if that's to happen why not get rid now.

And as for giving up on romanticised ideals of playing Academy football I'd settle for juat a little imagination, flair and spirit - some entertainent for fs - or what's the point?

Is that the choice you've been given?

The Board could just as well be thinking, let's stay up first, then get a new manager bedded in before moving into the OS. What sort of manager/players are you going to attract languishing in the Championship?

Besides, there's no guarantee you'd 'get it right'.

As above, who's to say they won't sack him in the summer if you stay up.

I reckon the owners are having the fright of their lives at the moment, and it might not be forgotten.

At the start of the season you were predicting a top 10 finish, hardly a league position of 'maintaining', so you must have thought he was doing something right then...

He's a good manager, just a strange choice for this particular job. You can give him as long as you like, I don't think he'll cut it.

No. Anything good that happened was despite him. I was happy to see J Cole back a year ago but I still wanted Allardyce out last Feb:
