malumbu
Not probably, but facts. Human rights has some element of subjectivity but you would be pretty hard pressed to conclude otherwise.Holding the tournament ligitimises the regime. Money is nothing, Surely that is pretty obvious? You'd be hard pressed to find good reasons why it is in Qatar. Good on Peter Reid for his support of opposition to the Iraqui regime. I wonder what Judas David Beckham thinks of this. Alan Medic
I'm not sure there is anything United can do in the remainder of the season, to get rid of the nightmare that was Sunday's defeat to Liverpool (for me anyway). Can anyone explain how it happened? For 40 minutes or so, they looked okay. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35029-football-focus/page/324/#findComment-1615883 Share on other sites
diable rouge
It hurts a lot but I'd happily trade that result for a trophy, and who knows there maybe another trophy and a top 4 finish, which would be quite an achievement considering where Utd were last season. The result shouldn't define Utd's season either, unless we go into freefall which I don't think will happen. It feels like a freak result that can sometimes happen, 8 shots on target producing 7 goals isn't the norm. Not that long ago, Liverpool themselves let in 7 against Villa. That they lost their heads at 3-0 was a concern, but I saw similar under Fergie when City went 0-3 up in the 1-6 derby. Sometimes rather than trying to chase a game, esp at Anfield, it's best to contain and see a match out.I feel ETH made a big mistake too with his selection, putting Fernandes up against Trent, when it should've been Rashford, our best attacker against their weakest defender. Bruno is far better centrally and would've helped Casemiro and Fred who were outnumbered... SuperMarioD
Arsenal is doing great this season. They can't lose the title this time as they did in 08/09 (if I'm correct)... They can't lose the title this time as they did in 08/09 (if I'm correct)... If Arsenal were to lose the title this season it would be (probably) very different from that earlier collapse. WIth City having a game in hand, the gap is effectively 3 points. So if Arenal lose to City at the Etihad, City would be on top with a goal difference advantage - even if Arenal won all their other games (and assuming City do similar) So no collapse required - it simply comes down to two league games against City and if City win both of them you can't argue with them being champions. Remarkable that Arsenal are even this close tbh Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35029-football-focus/page/324/#findComment-1620051 Share on other sites

diable rouge
Not familiar with the book but I know the author is a sports journalist, so one would presume it's a well researched and written book. One point though, the book was first published in 2010, since then there have been changes to the game tactically, certainly regarding what is now considered the norm such as 'pressing the ball from the front', 'inverted wingers', goalkeepers now expected to be good with their feet/passing rather than just shot stoppers, full backs dropping into midfield rather than all-out 'wing backs'... maxxi
So Maguire is (possibly) on his way to (nearly said Upton Park) London Stadium... I dunno... feels like this is Moyes setting out a season of 'defence at all costs' football for us. I'm not a fan of the slab-headed cart-horse but maybe I'm wrong and he'll be genius (stop laughing RD) or maybe Alvarez will make up for it and Ward-Prowse will be... well.. Really want to keep Pacqueta but if he's determined to go then like the look of Cole Palmer if that really is a realistic swap. Every summer it's the same - sell a big player and mess up the spending. Still basking in the trophy win but we need things to happen now or we'll be bang in the cart. Predcitions? Top Four: 1. Arsenal 2. Man City 3. Newcastle. 4. Man United. (Liverpool Chelsea and Spurs for next three) Bottom Three: Forest - Luton - Sheff Utd. diable rouge
I think west Ham have done good business, Maguire will suit Moyes' system i.e. deeper defence therefore his lack of pace is less exposed. He's also got lots of captain/leadership experience, much needed after Rice's departure, likewise JWP, plus he's one of the best penalty, free-kick, corner takers in the PL. Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal were supposedly interested in Alvarez last summer but Ajax wouldn't sell after losing other key players. I'd be more worried about losing Paqueta and finding a replacement. Man Utd have done good business too but can't help thinking we should've made a bigger effort to get Kane, put him in last season's team and we would've seriously challenged City & Arsenal. But, ETH has done very well up to now so hopefully Hojlund is another 'Striking Viking'. There's also an abundance of other forward options with Rashford, Sancho, Antony, and Garnacho who I think will step up another level. My predictions for top 4 seem to change on a daily basis, this morning's news that LFC will sign Caicedo could be a gamechanger, so now have to put them in the top 4 in lieu of Toon. I also have a hunch that City won't win the league for no other reason than a reaction to last season. So... 1. Man Utd 2. Man City 3. Arsenal 4. Liverpool Sorry West Ham fans, I can't predict another win in Europe this season, but with Kane leaving, West Ham to finish above Spurs. What more do you want?"! Wolves, Shef Utd & Luton for the drop. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35029-football-focus/page/324/#findComment-1633954 Share on other sites
