It was when it happened on the last day of the season last year :)

Ridiculous decision by FIFA to expand the WC to 48 teams. This is what the European Club Association wrote about it:

"The European Club Association reiterates that it is in principle not in favour of an expanded World Cup.

"We fail to see the merits to changing the current format of 32 that has proven to be the perfect formula from all perspectives. Questionable is also the urgency in reaching such an important decision, with nine years to go until it becomes applicable, without the proper involvement of stakeholders who will be impacted by this change.

"We understand this decision has been taken based on political reasons rather than sporting ones and under considerable political pressure, something ECA believes is regrettable.

"ECA will analyse in detail the impact and the consequences of the new format and will address the matter at the next meeting of its Executive Board scheduled for the end of January."

Met him on the train home once (living in Bucks at the time), couldn't have been more friendly and gracious to me.

Good pundit as well.

Sorry to share a link with the truly dreadful Sun but this is worth reading as Ronaldo and Messi are finally catching up with my hero Jimmy Greaves goal scoring record. The fact is Ronaldo is just eight goals behind him so will at his goal scoring rate probably surpass it in a matter of weeks.

It's worth remembering just what a genius he was on the pitch. To me he is a true footballing god who has been under appreciated in the country of his birth. And for me is better than both Messi and Ronaldo who played at a time when defenders kicked lumps out of forwards and played on crap pitches, not like the bowling green lawns they play on today.

Jimmy Greaves - he's one of our own.

More here from the Huffington Post if you don't want to feel soiled by reading The Sun.

I've never been a fan of the British media, but the vitriol and poisonous character assassination heaped upon graham Taylor during his spell as England manager was disgraceful. Now they are putting out gushing stories about how great he was. Perhaps they should have told him that while he was alive eh?

    • Agree and that is due to the echo-chamber nature of social media algorithms. Previously racists and other idiots wouldn't read stuff in traditional media that echoed their warped mindset but now they feel empowered because they think everyone thinks this and can easily reach those that do share the same ideology. Cast your mind back to how Blackberry Messenger was blamed for its role in the London riots back in 2011. We now have that a thousand times worse.
    • Wow what can we say Steve and Nicola did a fantastic job on our paquet flooring. After the builders made a complete mess of our floors after a flood, not only was back to wood price very reasonable. They were very professional and listened to exactly what we wanted.  The finish was perfect and hardly any dust  and they kept us informed during the works. We would highly recommend this company. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️   The only down side using Steve & Nicola is the lead time, we had to wait over 8 weeks, but believe me, it was definitely worth waiting for their availability.
    • strong agree rockets - not just the kids tho - the number of older people who seem to have been radicalised is more noticeable to me
