Alan Medic
I think it's a good move for England. A lot of what's written about BFS was unfair. He didn't do much lumping it up football to keep Sunderland up when Defoe was his CF. Besides, England have tried just about everything/one else. Give him a chance. ????
I agree with you Mr M.In the case for the defense, what has any manager since Hoodle achieved in making England look competitive at the business end of international football (the tournaments)? With hindsight, I think that 5-1 win over Germany wasn't great for English football as it made Sven untouchable for way too long.1998 since we've looked like we could win anything.......Careful what you wish for :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35029-football-focus/page/282/#findComment-1025801 Share on other sites

????
Now that sounds fun. Any chance of seeing the hipsters and rag tag Corbynista's getting a good kicking off the 'wackers? 'bout now
Actually I agree. One thing BFS is good at is getting the core of a team together. He doesn't pick on reputation, more on the ability to follow his wishes. We will be muscular, intimidating. The football will be terrible to watch but we'll win more than we lose and maybe we can put the pressure on other sides rather than vice versa. Kevin Nolan could well be the oldest player since Sir Stanley Matthews. We want to make good use of the young talent we have at our disposal. We don't want to nullify the opposition to win games, we want to outplay them.We want a manager that players will look up to, a manager used to looking after superstars, a manager that has played and coached at the highest level. We want a manager with fresh ideas and a plan for a long term future; a Joachim Low or a Didier Deschamps or a Chris Coleman or a Jurgen Klinsmann. The idea that we have to have an English manager is laughable; ask the England rugby team. But on this point I sort of disagree. Superstars are Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Ibrahimovic, Beckham (in his day). Most of these players need someone that will stop pandering to them and explain that despite the ludicrous pay they get from their clubs, they are laughing stocks on the international stage, and need to have a bloody word with themselves. Bit of tough love, which is one thing he might be good for. Otta
He's the manager now anyway, so I am going to put my past misgivings on hold and give him a chance. The only problem is that if he does succeed at all, his completely unjustifiably massive ego will become somewhat validated. And no one wants to see that! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35029-football-focus/page/282/#findComment-1025882 Share on other sites

There were security people there on Tuesday for the friendly v Charlton. They were checking bags for booze. I think the club doesn't want to upset the council, given that they're looking to get a licence for an outside bar to relieve congestion in the main bar.In addition to tomorrow afternoon's friendly against Millwall, there's one against Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening. The other pre-seasons are away. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/35029-football-focus/page/282/#findComment-1026097 Share on other sites

Jah Lush
1. Spurs (I can dream can't I?)2. Liverpool (No European distractions)3. Chelsea (Ditto)4. ????
I think the 'without the disrtraction of Europe' is vastly overrated if you look the the top 4 of the last 10 years and discount an outlier like Leicester. You can apply this to most of the top leagues in Europe. Jah Lush
You're probably right. I'll substitute Chelsea for Arsenal and Liverpool for Man City. Oh, and instead of Watford going down replace that with West Ham. Although thanks to a pal I am going to Wembley for the first time since it was done up to see the LFC Barcelona friendly, then to Anfield to see LFC Hull, so looking forward to that.
