In that video there are 3 headers, 3 tap-ins, 1 dribble past 1 player, 2 pens, 1 cheeky backheel, 1 free kick and 1 low drive from the edge of the area.

He doesn't score the unstoppable 30 yard screamers like Bale has done this season, and about 6 or 7 of them last season. He doesn't pick the ball up in his own half, tear past 4 or 5 players and score.

Bale, by the age of 24 has a MUCH better selection of goals than Ronaldo had at that age.

I'm not saying for one moment that Bale is better than Ronaldo right now; but he scores better goals. And if his career trajectory continues at the pace that it has in the last 3 seasons, he will go on to win world player of the year. He has more in his repertoire than Ronaldo had at that age.

Alonso after last night, "it was amazing. I don?t think I?ve ever seen anything like it, It seemed like the ball had gone out and he was pushed, but he just ran off the field. Impressive."

And he's played with and against Ronaldo for years.

Check this video from last season. 31 goals I think, and only about 5 or 6 of them weren't brilliant in one way or another.

Roanldo won his first Ballon d'Or at the age of 22, Bale will be 25 in July.

Careful tj, you're in danger of becoming the new UDT...only funnier :)

Whatever! They are both wonderful players. I feel privileged to have watched Bale's development over the last few years at Spurs. If we'd managed to keep hold of him this season I'm certain we'd be 12 points better off. He saved our arses so many time last season with winning goals and great performances.

As first seasons go he's had a very good one at Real considering he was injured and missed quite a few games at the beginning of the season. Now he's well and truly settled in at Real Madrid he'll only get better as well. He's an absolute joy to watch.

I think it might be you that's moving the goal posts- if you read my post properly you'll see that I said "variety of world class goals" with the emphasis on world class. Which was nothing like proven from that small collection. In fact there was only one in the twelve that was anywhere near approaching world class.

However; after a quick review of youtube, I can see that I was wrong. My memory failed me, i didn't remember Ronaldo scoring the spectacular goals other than freekicks.

The Ballon D'or is a little irrelevant in this case though as it's number of goals scored. I've never doubted that Ronaldo was better in terms of quantity. I still maintain that Bale, by 24 was better in terms of quality. And most of it, bar a few has been in the last season and a half.

And, I'll reiterate that I don't think Bale is a better player than Ronaldo.

Ah, Mr Selective I see. I did read your post properly...all of it.

You did say "variety of world class goals", but you also then went on to say...

30 yard screamers, sprints with ball from the half way line, beating 3 players in a tight space in the box, volleys, free kicks, headers, both feet, tap-ins. Not one-offs either. You look at his last 50 goals (this season and last) and it's pretty much extraordinary the range of different types of goals he's scored. I don't think there's another player in the world that has that variety to the same extent.

Ronaldo clearly is another player who has scored a variety of goals you describe. Are you now saying that these different type of goals have to be world class to be considered? If so, perhaps you'd like to post a link to some world class tap-ins please :)

The Ballon d'Or isn't a little irrelevant in this case. It's nothing to do with number of goals scored (I think you may be confusing it with the Golden Shoe/Boot?) Pre-2010 it was awarded to the European Player of the Year, voted by journos. Then in 2010 the Ballon d'Or superseded the old 'FIFA World Player of the Year' and is now awarded to the best player voted by international captains, coaches and journos.

So before 2010 you had 2 awards, 'FIFA World Player of the Year', voted by coaches etc and the old Ballon d'Or (European Footballer of the Year). Ronaldo won both these awards in 2008...both for quality not quantity.

I stand corrected on all counts.

The rest of the world is still chuckling that the Rags are struggling to make a Europa League spot this season... :)

Could be for the best for them, hasn't done Liverpool any harm this year.

Depends which team you support.

Utd fans jokingly called themselves the Rags after Old Trafford was bombed during the war...Utd fans would say they were going to see the 'homeless rags'.

City fans will tell you another story, that Utd's blue kit for the '68 European Cup Final was made out of 'rags' by the Stockport based shirt maker...Stockport being the heartland of City's support.

The 'Red Arrogant Gits' acronym is a recent internet take on it.

Rags has only become popular in recent times because of the bad press City fans got for previously using the term 'Munichs', so rags has become a more publicly acceptable alternative.

Some Utd fans have taken to using the term 'oil rags' for City fans, but in general, Utd fans don't see it as a derogotory term, whereas Munichs was.

I'm sure BR has got his own take on it... ;-)

Careful what you say, City are about to have their wrists slapped for breaching FFP...

Funny how United fans are attempting to paint our season as a failure (a trophy, top 3, 7-1 aggregate v Rags, fantastic football to watch, etc - I'll take that!). Poor quality camouflage from our glory seeking chums. If City aren't to win it... come on Liverpool. Anything but Mourinho and his nasty mind games and anti-football team.

It reminds me of the whole shef united / west ham thing a few years back. okay so the circumstances are different, but at the end of the day it's clutching at straws because the team haven't done enough on the pitch.

But with the money in the premier leagie being what it is, you can see why teams will do anything to stay up.

A Manc born blue to Manc parents and a fan since the 60s... hardly either just coming out of the wordwork or glory seeking. I was a regular during those 34 years of failure. You lot just haven't cared about us before.

Agree. It's got Vincent Tan written all over it. Nothing against Cardiff and their fans, but the PL won't miss him...

    • The problem is Starmer can't shut up about his dad being a tool maker, they made Keir,  a right prize tool. Reeves continually blames the previous Govt, but correct me if I'm wrong but inflation was decreasing, unemployment was stagnant, with decreases and the occasional increase, things were beginning to stabalise overall.    Then we had the election 4 July when Starmer and co swept to power, three months on things are worse than they were before, yet Reeves continues to blame the former Govt. The national debt doubled overnight with public sectors all getting a wage increase and now the budget that penalises business with the increase in Employers national insurance. The result of which will be increased prices in the shops, increased inflation, increased numbers of redundancies, increased unemployment and increased pressures on the DWP to fund this    Future growth will go backwards and become negative, farmers will no longer farm in protest against the Govt, more people will become poorer and unable to pay their bills, things will spiral out of control and we'll have a repeat of the General Strike until this bunch of inept politicians resign and Kemi and co prevent the ship from hitting the iceberg and sinking.
