fish
Does East Dulwich have any resident ghosts? Are there any haunted buildings/houses/shops in the area? Anyone ever seen a ghost or been effected by super natural goings-on? Please, do tell. fish
A house on Rodwell Road was haunted by the ghost of an elderly lady, who used to sit by the front window and drink her mug of tea, which she used to place on an old Edwardian table. When the new occupiers moved in, they inherited the said table and kept it in the same place. However, whenever the lady of the house went to dust and polish the table, a round mark would appear on it and the temperature of the room would, always, drop. This carried on for quite a while, until the table was put into the back room, upstairs.... where the mark was still known to appear, when there was only one person in the house and their name would be called out, whilst they were sitting downstairs by the front window, drinking a cup of coffee or tea! The occupiers of the house, were only told about the old lady and her daily ritual several years later, when they had a visit from her son. Apparently, she died in her chair, looking out of the window, with her china mug on the table beside her. spadetownboy
east dulwich hospital was used as a casualty station for soldiers wounded in ww1,legend has it that one poor unfortunate who had sustained terrible injuries but also lost his sight due to being gassed, wanders the corridors looking for his fallen comrades, apparantly bumping off this, that and the other. fish
That's really eerie, as I remember my neighbour telling me that when she was a cleaner at Dulwich Hospital - in the 1960's - she twice saw the coat and legs of what looked like a soldier, suspended through the ceiling! She didn'tsay anything, at the time, because she thought people would think she was mad. Since the new occupant moved intothe flat, she's been complaining about the smell of tobacco - and I haven't got the heart to tell her that the man wholived there, before her, used to smoke a pipe - and was found dead in his kitchen. SpringTime
One of the houses on Nutfield Road is haunted. If you're a Nutfield resident I think it's benign. There's a ghost of an old woman on the top floor of one of the houses on the SE22 side of Peckham Rye. It's in one of the buildings that hasn't been converted into flats - or certainly hadn't been 10 years ago. I can't remember what number... but that one is not benign. Late summer. There were three of us in the house, all grown-ups, and our visit was business-related. The house was empty and had been for some time. No electricity. Some furniture had been left throughout the building. The curtains were still in place and had been partly or wholly drawn in some rooms. It was a dark house anyway. In the top room the curtains were open however. It was a double bed. We'd walked passed it on entering the room, drawn towards the window to look out over the Rye. There was no noise, not a sound, but something wasn't right. None of us uttered a word and as we turned our heads simultaneously there she was in the bed... slowly sitting up as if rising from the grave.Of course we had to run, not looking back. Piercing terror. This was in 2008 and I have never had cause to go back, and wouldn't want to. fishbiscuits
Amazing how some people skip right past any potential rational explanations, and jump straight to ghost/poltergeist/magic/god/etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/350-ghosts-and-hauntings-in-east-dulwich/#findComment-1219427 Share on other sites
