fluffy
Very surprised at how utterly dreadful it was. ?1 entry a few cars selling below par tat and naff all else. Shall be sticking with places with actual stock and less rude door staff. pinecone
sounds like your run-of-the-mill car boot sale. the same tat gets circulated like unwanted wine at dinner parties. fluffy
Had it been about 100 times larger I'd agree, but 15 cars and a unbelievably rude guy on the gate is laughable. Also why a police presence?! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/34971-dulwich-hamlet-car-boot-rubbish/#findComment-667567 Share on other sites
Lynne
Probably to deal with the complainants (quite a few of them). ?1 is high To be fair to the organisers, if people don't come to sell, there isn't going to be much stuff to buy. DulwichFox
I was there as a seller last year... Paid ?10.00 made ?9.00 profit on the day.. I had some nice stuff. ie a brand new Bag my mum had bought for ?25.00 but never got the chance to use before she passed away. Could not even get a Fiver for it. People want everything for nothing. Not a good place for sellers.. macutd
i must agree it's rubbish. I too couldn't give away my children's bikes.Too few people too few stalls. It should be on once a month only. fishfoot
Have to say I agree while people do want to give very little for what we sell it is still a car boot sale and not an antiques fair, so as much as people want to complain I am one of the luck ones who am selling to add funds to a family holiday and everthing I am selling is of good quality (childrens clothes) and some bits from late brother I am also aware that its not too everyones taste but you'll be surprised what is available and at times of descent value ( my kids bought some tat but it was still fun for them) so pkease dont paint every seller with the same brush . purplebreeze
Agree we did it last weekend and although I made more than I paid for a pitch it was disappointing everyone bartering really badly and some people were so rude - i refused to sell them things ... had 2 pairs brand new leather shoes with labels on the bottom one for ?60 and one for ?40 and people were offering ?1 for them - it was insulting although I didn't want much but a fiver each would be nice, better off selling things privately on eBay. Anyway the women next to us told us Norwood is much better although you have to book in advance but they said its decent for both selling and buying and everyone is happy when they leave so may go to have a look. Happy hunting and if anyone finds a good one please let me know. Moneykelly
No, it's still awful. Just utter tat for sale, and the people that go aren't willing to pay much for anything. Two people last week had a huge stand up shouting match about how little to pay for goods. Your much better off at Biggin Hill. adonirum
Followed this thread with a bit of interest as I visited a couple of times in the summer and was only charged 50p entrance!!! However, went this last Sunday and it was indeed ?1. I queried it, and this is where I now appreciate what"fluffy" wrote previously. The bloke on the gate was a truly rude ignoramus, telling me I did not know what I was talking about it's always ?1. and further, as I only had a small amount of change, wouldn't change a ?20 note for me. ( Yes, I do accept it's a bad strategy to go to a boot sale without copious amounts of change). I left, but as I was walking away there was another guy directing traffic, so I asked him about 50p and ?1 to which he informed me it's 50p when you come later in the day. Now this is despite my arriving earlier in the summer than I did on Sunday. I said how I only had a small amount of change, at which he became quite abrupt and sneering, stating " so you couldn't buy anything then" When I pointed out that his colleague wouldn't change a note, he said " I'll give you the other 50p to get in if you like"!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO WHY ARE THEY CHARGING ?1 IN THE FIRST PLACE IF THEY WERE EFFECTIVELY PREPARED TO LET ME IN FOR 50p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Avoid this boot sale at all costs. Organised by a couple of blue collar, working class "heroes", living the fantasy of Del Boy from Fools and Horses. Morons one and all. Guest
And you get idiotic people parking in the most ridiculous places just to be as close to the entrance as possibleTime to shut it down...
