Sorsi & Morsi Lordship Lane

When my mum (82) had a nasty fall in Lordship Lane a little while ago the owner was really nice to her, helped her and made sure she was alright. She later went their for a meal and said it was very good and would go back again, she is not the easiest of people to please so that is praise indeed!

Just back from Lordship Lane where Sorsi & Morsi have been handing out free "tasters" to passers-by, from outside the restaurant. I had my doubts when Indian Mischief went down and what looked like just another pizza & pasta joint appeared, but they seem to really know what they're doing.

A range of pizzas were on offer and from among them we tried the mozzarella and caramelised onion offering - it was brilliant! The dough was excellent and the accompanying cherry tomatoes and fresh basil (from a basil plant of course) were lovely. At one point the chef came out and demonstrated the art of "throwing" pizza dough, much to everyone's delight!

It seems like a great addition to Lordship Lane and I think they really deserve to succeed.

Also had a free taster of the pizza today which was excellent ... and consequently went to dinner tonight. I agree with above comments - the food is excellent and authentic and we very much enjoyed it. The outside bit was full / fully booked, so had to sit inside. The outside looks lovely but I do feel the decor inside needs some work if this restaurant is to be successful long-term. It rather lacks atmosphere. Some easy wins are probably add table clothes, lay cutlery on tables, salt and pepper on tables and remove fluorescent lighting panel at back. Would really benefit from having the tables chairs removed with new more comfortable chairs.

Anyway, definitely recommend going for the food and will be going back.

Went today. It is pleasant enough - nice outside seating area at the back, but food was nothing special I'm afraid. Bruschetta with tomatoes, garlic and basil was a bit disappointing, not least cos there was no basil - there was some micro herb/cress but it certainly was not basil - doubly disappointing when I passed a pot of basil as a table decoration just inside the restaurant on leaving. This is a prime spot and ED needs a good Italian - let's hope they make the most of their opportunity.

Thought the pizza was... Pretty good. More il mirto than si mangia. If it wasn't best ever it's still more than good in a neighbourhood joint

The outside terrace is, again not amazing, but better than most place in the area

It deserves to do well and people seem to be coming. Good stuff

(That interior needs to go tho. It reeks of past failures and a 1999 aesthetic. Softer please )

  • 1 month later...

Last night for my wedding anniversary I finally went to Sorsi & Morsi (I wanted to go when first opened but was on holiday) and I found both food and service really excellent (pizza with fried aubergines and salted ricotta was delicious and very full filling). I will definitely be back.

At my slight criticism about the lack of comfortable tables and chairs I was reassured that they are working at it and will change the current tables with benches soon as well as enclosing and put heating in the back garden to be used in the winter months too for the customers who wish to do so, and being a smoker I probably will.

I wish the owners and the staff all the best with this venture.
