Cycle group picnic Sat August 10th

Recommended Posts

Fancy a picnic? All welcome.
We have arranged a picnic with Lets Go Cycling (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2243369265928023/?locale=en_GB). It is a social event, and includes some cycling games (for example to find out who is the slowest cyclists in SE London).  Location: Ladywell Fields near the Good hope Café, (51.49805, -0.04906, ///events.league.ocean).  Kicking off at 12 noon. This is on National Route 21 at the start of the Waterlink Way so pretty easy to find.
We are also leading a feeder ride from Canada Water via Peckham Rye Park Café, details below. No registration for the picnic, but register for the ride, please. However note this is an event where you can just turn up. We invite local LCC Groups including Greenwich Cyclists and are happy for any cyclists interested in social rides to turn up. We also welcome partners, friends and relatives.  Riders of all ages are welcome but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”.
Feeder Ride to the Picnic
Start Canada Water, Deal Porter Square, next to Library and opposite CW Station. Meet 10:30am. Bruce leading. Route goes across Southwark Park, through to Glengall Rd, then Canal Path to Peckham Square, up Rye Lane stopping at 11:15am at our second meet up point, The Round Café, Peckham Rye Park, Straker Road (51.45909, -0.06266, ///toxic.drives.stars). From there through Nunhead, across the rail bridge at the end of Brockley Way and down to Ladywell Fields at Ewhurst Rd. Finally follow NR21 (Waterlink Way) to the Good Hope Café.  If requested, a return led ride will be available. The feeder  ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides organised by Southwark Cyclists, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • The community noticeboards I see are incredibly out of date,  who has the key? anyone step forward?
    • Where to begin? I'm middle class and am quite happy for them to be used for information about voluntary/not for profit/non commercial events, they should not be used as a means of free advertising for businesses, small or otherwise, they are just not large enough.  Commjnity groups do not have the money to advertise to increase awareness of the services they offer. The examples you have given which you would like to see them used for may reflect your own priorities but the community of East Dulwich reflects a much wider range of interests and requirements. The  notice boards were introduced in 2011 when East Dulwich had already gentrified and their purpose discussed in the EDF thread announcing their arrival.
    • The notice boards are a reasonable size, surely there should be room for both types of leaflets, after all we are meant to be a community? Unless space is extremely limited, it feels a little divisive for a councillor to say private businesses cannot post. All businesses are important for the lifeblood of a community too, aren't they?
    • Hilarious. Yes, they have magic wands and can make the last 14yrs of public asset stripping disappear overnight 🙄
