Hi there,

This is a long shot i know, but i was verbally assaulted by the manger of Llidl Denmark hill at around 6.20 pm on Thursday 26th July.

He and two colleagues manning the self serve checkouts were laughing and joking loudly and f'ing and blinding about " Chi Chi men ". This is a derogatory slang  Jamaican term for a homosexual.

Once i got to the till I politely told him that i didn't expect to hear such language in a public store while trying to shop. He then told me several times to F off out of his store followed with several uses of the C word.

I  reported the incident to the Police who took the matter seriously, however Lidl has offered up limited CCTV that does not prove what happened and the case has been closed. Lidl have offered me a £50 voucher out of goodwill. I will not accept that as way of an apology for what happened.

I'm looking for any possible  witnesses or any advice as to how to pursue this matter further. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry it's not a happy story!

thanks

Jon

I wonder if you have been able to deal with Lidl's head office as a first port of call. I would imagine them not being happy at all to hear this happened, and they would likely launch an internal investigation where they can interview colleagues, access CCTV records, etc.

If that didn't work and the police isn't being more helpful, perhaps the media might help - it seems like something the Guardian might report on
