el_nino
Wondering if anyone had an axle grinder or similar to cut down my clothes rail by 5-10mm. B&Q and selco only cut wood. Seems excessive to buy the tools for such a small cut. Many thanks in advance! beigemartin
You could probably do it with a junior hacksaw such as https://www.toolstation.com/eclipse-junior-hacksaw/p30695?store=AR&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&mkwid=_dm&pcrid=null&pkw=null&pmt=null&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwqf20BhBwEiwAt7dtdQxHFnvbuYfDteeZr3ws_NQqETMN5_R-LjtIDGhjqJHfcRSd4430ShoCHKoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/348449-cutting-a-wardrobe-rail/#findComment-1673681 Share on other sites

Possibly the chrome was too slippery for the teeth? Possibly the chrome was too slippery for the teeth? yeah, getting started can be tricky, but it should be possible. Get the rail on a table and someone to hold it still then i would use the saw held up against my finger in the place you want to cut and push slowly/gently back and forth until the cut has started (obv not a recommendation, but a fine toothed hacksaw can't really cut skin very easily). An angle grinder just seems like overkill. Good luck! teddyboy23
Put masking tape around rail that way the saw won't slip simples Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/348449-cutting-a-wardrobe-rail/#findComment-1673759 Share on other sites
marctt
Suggest using a plumbing pipe cutter, done this several times with steel rails and gives nice clean cut without damaging finish or shape. Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/348449-cutting-a-wardrobe-rail/#findComment-1673852 Share on other sites
