hallo, I have a massive, very-fast-growing ivy growing in one part of my garden, and would like to take bits of it and plant in another part. Can anyone advise me how to take a cutting (I pressume that's what i need to do) without damaging it to ensure it will grow in its new place?

I've tried many times but with no luck - all nmy cuttings dry out within hours.

many thanks!

Are you using rooting powder? That sometimes helps.

If not you could do the following but it's a bit faffy:

put some compost in a pot, take a strand of the ivy (still attached) and peg/weight it down on top of compost. Wait a few weeks and it should have rooted, then cut from main plant and place where required.

Make a cut at a gentle 20 degrees, but not all the way through

Peg either side of it to the earth so that it cannot move

put soil over it and leave for a few months

it should send out roots from the cut.

It might be quicker and more successful if you peg it down on top of a trowel or two of compost.

    • I’d also like to reiterate the above. I called Paul after seeing the recommendation here. He came the next day. Found a fix for a problem with the wiring for my fridge/freezer. He was quick to respond, totally constructive and very reasonably priced. Paul will now be my go to electrician and I’d be happy to recommend him. Kate (Paul Edgley 07802 627967)
    • Please get in touch, I have your belongings.
    • We left behind a Brickhouse fabric tote bag (white, black handles) with a sketchbook and pastels/markers/ brushes at Perks & White at Herne Hill station yesterday at about 8.45am. Sadly it has not been handed in to the Cafe or station staff. The drawings and sketches are a collection we have built over a long period so of huge sentimental value. If anyone comes across this would be grateful if they could let me me know. A photo of the sketchbook and bag behind attached (just before I realised I had left it behind) Many thanks!
    • I was under the impression that a local councillor lives in that street. Presumably then, the council are already aware.
