I don't know if the problem has been resolved since 9am, but first thing this morning M&S on Lordship Lane were not able to take card payment, only cash. This issue was compounded by the nearest cash machine at the P.O. being out of order. I also heard a number of M&S staff say that Sainsbury's at DKH were also unable to take card payments. I managed get some cash out of the Co-Op ATM in the end.

Many small businesses take cash only i.e some local cafes/shops/hairdressers in both ED and Forest Hill. As well as my card - always try to have around £10/£20 cash on me. Daughter in Sussex is trying to teach her 8 and 10 year old value of money and budgeting, finds it hard to demonstrate with hard cash as so few shops take cash where she lives. Ended up in getting those debt cards for children.

    • What do you need a solicitor for? What advice do you/they need? Only the courts or the tenants can end a tenancy, the landlord can only require possession. If it is a section 21 that is a "no fault" eviction,  meaning the landlord simply wants their property back vacant. If it is a section 8 it means the landlord requires possession because of rent arrears or some other kind of breach of the tenancy agreement. If there is no notice then it is potentially an illegal eviction. TBH the council are probably likely to advise they stay put until the courts evict them, but that could result in them being allocated emergency accomodation - which could be outside of Southwark and possibly a hotel room or hostel.  As you will be very much aware council housing is rarer than hens teeth in inner London so I would advise this family not to pin thejr hopes on that, they would better off trying to find somewhere more stable to rent privately.
    • If the eviction is coming through an agent, it’s unlikely to be an illegal eviction in which case a solicitor would be an expensive waste of money. Southwark council’s  housing department   gives free advice/help to private tenants. 02075254113

    • Niko is fantastic, he's been my plumber for a few years now. He's honest, reliable, trustworthy and always gives good advice on how to look after your plumbing. In the past Niko has replaced my shower mixer tap, kitchen sink tap and cleared a sink blockage etc. I would definitely recommend Niko, he always does a fantastic job and takes pride in his work. Niko is the only  plumber I would call, really nice guy, always makes me laugh. His number is; 07818 607583. Thanks, Harj
