Beware crows on Townley Road

Recommended Posts

I was quietly walking along the road at around 8pm last night from the Lordship Lane end and a crow swooped down and clawed my head and then swooped at me several more times until I could get far enough away to be left alone. It was entirely unprovoked - I’m guessing they must be nesting along there. (I can see from the forum it happened to someone last year around this time too.) Be careful, their claws are sharp!

Happened to me around 8.30 on corner of Townley and Beauval last night too - it came from behind so i had no idea it was coming, luckily it didn't claw me, but swooped so low over my head I felt the swoosh of its wings. Pretty terrifying and I could see it perched on a chimney pot so was wary of it flying down again. Presume it was the same bird, felt like something out of Hitchcock.

They're very protective of their recently fledged young and will divebomb people who get too close. There was probably a youngster lurking nearby. It happened to me a few years ago on Peckham Rye Common.

Yes, this is true.  I used to feed the crows on Peckham Rye and once you feed them they never forget you and will appear almost instantly the next time you visit.   I follow an account on Instagram called Crows in a Park which follows crows in a central London Park.

Hi guys, I'm a journalist for Southwark News. I'm currently covering a story about the crow attacks in this location, to warn people to avoid/be careful in that area this time of year.

Would any of you who have been attacked be willing to be quoted for the article?

If so my email is [email protected]

Thanks in advance!

"Dulwich, East London".

Lazy journalist (or incompetent sub editor)

Btw, PGC, I admire your evenhandedness with recent links from both the Graun and the Fail 😂

Eh?

How would you like to have your head clawed at by large birds whilst just walking along?!

What, wherever you go, on the off chance you might be attacked by a second-rate raven?!

    • I've found Joseph's to be great on the 3 or 4 times I've been.  Did you take it up with them first before potentially ruining an independent local business and its employees?
    • I am amazed.  Josephs is not new, it has been there about 3 years?  I have had fish and chips from there a few times and rate their fish as some of the best I have ever had from a fish and chip shop.  Chips are great as well,  The portions are enormous and great value.
    • I don't know if you have had fish & chips from the new fish shop in lordship lane. East dulwich. Called Joseph's. Well my and my wife went there the other day we had rock & chips. The chips was lovely but the fish was well over cooked and very greesy. I just could not eat the fish the batter was realy hard and the fish just taste like rope and dry. My wife's fish was just the same   but the batter on her one was harder . This was the first time I've been there and it will be  the last time.sorry this shop is not worth The prices they charge for their produce. I paid £ 29.90 for this load of crap.
    • Looking for about 10m of blue 25mm bore water pipe.
