Due Fratelli

Recommended Posts

I finally tried Dai Due Fratelli last weekend. They were so incredibly friendly. Really good pizzas and a good wine selection. Really reasonably priced. I urge everyone to support it.

I agree with the OP this is an independent restaurant that deserves support. You’ll need to be quick to visit before their summer holidays. In true Italian style they are on holiday from 29 July to 29 August.

I’m reluctant to put this on here but I can only think people haven’t tried it as it’s not busier.

We went before it changed hands from  500 degrees to Due Fratelli. For us it’s now the best pizza in East Dulwich. There are other things on the menu too. There’s also a “garden” at the back. Outdoor seating away from the road. Pizza and a beer for 2 for £40. Staff are always friendly and happy to add toppings to the pizzas.

Give it a try - it’s not a chain and to those who say East Dulwich has enough places that do pizza I’d say it’s the best of the restaurants, they do take away if that’s what you want though we’ve not seen any delivery drivers doing a collection.

Always happy to support local businesses, we had booked a table for 4 people at Dei Due Fratelli restaurant, Lordship Lane on a Saturday evening. While the food was nice and the staff were initially attentive and accommodating, this soon changed after the arrival of a second group of 10 - most of them visibly intoxicated and extremely loud (in addition to another group of 10 diners already present). The staff switched on their karaoke screen placed directly above our table without any consultation or warning. Due to the level of intoxication among many diners in the second large group, the atmosphere soon felt unsafe, fuelled by the restaurant staff continuing to serve further alcohol to them. Needless to say, this made any conversation impossible and spoiled the enjoyment of our meal and evening out. When approached for a reduction of the final bill, the staff were extremely reluctant but  eventually relented after much persuasion. Take away: The staff seem more concerned with making money from large groups of diners to the detriment of smaller groups, their wellbeing and enjoyment, blatantly ignoring health and safety aspects. We will not return.

Sorry to hear that acycle, it's a small place and big group could easily make it loud for sure.

I've been there 4-5 times in the last year and really like it.  It's a great, better-value alternative to Rocca and Olivelli (I enjoy both of those too).

The owners are proper italian so if you're just back from there on holiday and want to add something that you enjoyed it's not too much trouble for them to assist.

The front of house lady is great with kids, I have no reservations to heartily recommend the food.  We've also had the steak which they did a great job on as they have a proper charcoal grill in the kitchen in addition to the pizza over from it's previous iteration.

Re: the karaoke, I asked them to turn it down once and they did.

Please support folks by giving it a try, don't be shy to give them feedback on the window display or whatever, it would only help them.

I understand that you do not want to cause a fuss but if the noise from upstairs or nextdoor is unreasonable than you do not have to tolerate it.   The tenant next door might be a new tenant and it is worth their while to respect the regulations and be a good neighbour some people have just moved but have a secure tenancy. Others might be on a newer type of tenancy that is reviewed etc. My upstairs neighbours kids jump up and down from furniture onto the floor it is so freaking noisy and it gets on my last nerve but it is in usually done after 7am and before 9pm and some days it is quiet the noise is intermittent.  So at least I get a quiet night's sleep.   Which is a huge blessing.  To be fair we are not the quietest of homes either.  You are entitled to be able to have some peace in your home.  So don't allow others to ruin the enjoyment of having a lovely home.   Read the stuff in the Southwark website around environmental issues which I think explains reasonable noise etc.  If you don't follow it up it will never change.  Good luck 🤞
    • I'll do an order from Lidl in Sydenham if you ask nicely 😁
    • I love Lidl, but that would be a rubbish site for it, and there is one a short bus ride away in Camberwell. Where I will be heading to get my Christmas lebkuchen ❤️
    • I’m due with my second child in January and have been reflecting that it’s a shame you don’t do NCT or Bump & Baby with your second. We have some wonderful friends we met at baby class that my daughter has known since she was born, and I’d love my second daughter to have the same. I can’t see that a winter babies whatsapp group has been started so if anyone would like to join one please drop me a DM and I’ll put one together (or let me know if one exists!) Kate x
