Weekend of 27-28th April has been chosen by the London Cycling Campaign as the weekend when we all get on our bikes and show the candidates for Mayor that LONDON LOVES CYCLING. The “London Loves Cycling” campaign is explained at https://lcc.org.uk/campaigns/london-loves-cycling/. Have a look and maybe get your story on the LCC web site. There will also be a Sunday family ride organised by Southwark. Lewisham and Greenwich Cyclists along Cycleway 4 from Cutty Sark to Southwark Park, 12 noon at Cutty Sark, more info at https://lcc.org.uk/events/lll-cycleway4/

Ride 1.  London Bridge to Victoria Park.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-victoria-park-cycle-ride-tickets-886928455887 >

Victoria Park is the oldest public park in London (opened 1845) and bigger than any of our Southwark Parks. Has a lake with fountain, a pagoda and a bandstand where bands still play every Sunday. And it has some lovely wide paths, perfect for shared riding and walking.  We will set out at 9.30 across Tower Bridge and follow mostly quiet streets and paths via Limehouse and Mile End to ‘Vicky’ Park. Then east to the nearby Olympic Park and probable coffee stop at the View Tube. Back via Three Mills, underpass at A12, back streets to Westferry where pick up Cycleway 3. From there basically reverse of outward route back to London Bridge by about 1pm. Ride Leader Amanda.  Ride 2. Southwark Parks and a Velodrome < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-parks-and-a-velodrome-cycle-ride-tickets-886931234197 >

An easy ride for anyone, including new cyclists, that showcases 4 of Southwark’s larger parks plus its newest. And as a bonus you have a peep at London’s original velodrome – still going strong after 133 years. Start 9.30am in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre and Peckham Library). Aim to finish back in Peckham Square at 12 noon. Route: Peckham Rye Park, Dulwich Park, Herne Hill Velodrome, the off-road Green Dale path, the west end of Burgess Park, Geraldene Mary Harmsworth Park (Imperial War MMuseum),Elephant Park (new park), the east side of Burgess Park and the off-road Surrey Canal Path.  Rough map at https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1wzbEnhIKG7-t5XPQGt56tsHcRlNKGAk&usp=sharing. • I’m not an expert either but surely having that high of affordable housing would seem like a terrible investment. My guess is that they will pay southwark a fine then make the rest of it student housing too
    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
    • I had to renew my licence - took photocopy of my current licence and also my renewal application and posted everything off. Within 10 days received my new licence. My old licence was due to run out in January so I submitted the renewal early December.
    • I cannot remember who ran/organised the original ED LETS. They had meetings at the ED Community Centre every so often. I think there were about 20 - 25 people involved.
