After suggesting that it is white middle aged men my research suggested that older people are generally happier including the positivity effect -  age-related trend that favors positive over negative stimuli in cognitive processing. Relative to their younger counterparts, older people attend to and remember more positive than negative information.  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3459016/

My impression was based on the angry "gammons" that were often sited in the Brexit and post Brexit debate, and some of the current campaigners such as Howard Cox, and those that seem to be in front of the camera where there is any anti-car measures (subject for numerous other threads).  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gammon_(insult)

Well at least my preconceptions have been challenged, and on reflection I know far more happier older people than grumpy.

Gen Z would seem to have the most to be grumpy about, student loans, cost of housing and the unstable world they are inheriting, but are getting bad press at the moment which may be unwarranted.
