ArmandHelpen1
Anyone else received a cold call from this company pretending to be calling on behalf of EE? When I asked how they’d got my data they said ‘from East Dulwich forum’. I have contacted the Admin to find out whether EDF are selling our data to marketing companies or if they’ve been hacked. Alternatively the website is being scraped somehow. Just warning others in case anyone else receives a call- it’s a scam, do not engage with them 🙂 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/342874-plancom/ Share on other sites
Administrator Administrator Posted March 28 Administrator Share Posted March 28 There is deliberately nowhere to enter your phone number, name, address etc anywhere when registering an account on this forum. There never has been. There is no way to attach this sort of personal information to your account. If someone says that EDF has given your phone number, then this is a lie. No personal information is sold to any third party and it is not collected in the first place. 4 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/342874-plancom/#findComment-1660819 Share on other sites
ArmandHelpen1
Thanks Admin for clarifying - I’ve now found the post they used to scrape my telephone number from. So it wasn’t a data breach from EDF, rather my foolishness posting it online 15 years ago… Still leaving this thread here if that’s ok so that people are aware of this scam and don’t fall foul of it (also to think twice before posting phone numbers here as it can be used by any one as I’ve found out!) 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/342874-plancom/#findComment-1660820 Share on other sites
Penguin68
Do also remember that, whilst this is the original there is an unrelated FB presence with a (very) similar name, which might also be prayed in aid. colville09
Really interesting R4 programme on this company - ‘You and Yours’ consumer programme today. They are tricking people into a business contract which is not protected by consumer rights. Put the phone down, by even talking to them you are entering into a verbal agreement which has cost people thousands of pounds to exit according to the programme. ianr
The YaY programme is at https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001xvgy. Shari Vahl in the first third of the programme goes through the cold calling lying phone attempts that were made to try to get her in effect to move her O2 contract to them, and her investigative follow-ups. The callers apparently had extensive detailed information of her dealings with O2. They appear to be a third party call centre who have a referral contract with Plan.com. Plan.com are aware of the allegations, as are Ofcom. YaY say they're interested to have emails from people who have received similar cold calls. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1YnZrF9w7xR82St8d7Pgc6x/contact-you-yours Edited April 3 by ianr Updating Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/342874-plancom/#findComment-1661353 Share on other sites
