it's coming (even as Tories debate jettisoning Yet Another leader beforehand) soon and I for one can't wait to see the back of these inept political pygmies

Starmer's Labour are nowhere close to perfect but I can see all manner of wheels beginning to turn just by dint of basic competence and basic acknowledgment of geography (leading to more alignments and agreements with EU for example)

But what will happened between now and election day?

How will Reform impact things?

Any thoughts?

Who cares. Tories are getting annihilated at the next GM and will be out of office for years and years, Labour may get into office but Rayner will unseat Starmer, bring in Abbott with her and it will go far left. Chances of a coalition is unlikely but possible. Galloway will cause severe disruption so it will be a very bumpy ride. Hold tight, its going to be rough.............................

I think Starmer is a decent man, with the right values. Labour (assuming they do win) will inherit a pretty bad situation and so will be limited in how quickly they can turn round our current decline. But they will be infinitely better than this disastrous Tory mess, just as long as they can resist the urge to tear themselves apart with self indulgent internal battles.

As for Reform (brexit party) ltd, I find it unbelievable that there are people who would consider voting for that bunch of grifters in 2024. Tice and Farage have done nothing but divide and diminish this country. With Anderson on board too, it really is the ultimate clown show. Unfortunately, in the current attention economy / media landscape, they will get a disproportionate amount of free airtime (as will Galloway), and there are still those supporting them, presumably as a form of Stockholm Syndrome. Most people are more sensible though imo.

I just cannot wait for the current bunch to be cleared out. As someone once said, things can only get better

in this rubbish FPTP system, I don't understand malumbu's voting logic at all, even if I can sympathise with the reasoning

We either do everything we can to remove this govt (and for me that means voting LD in my constituency) or we pander to our principles like Corbyn did and let the Tories back in

If we had a different system then sure - we should vote for who we like best and see how rest of country does. But that isn't something we can do in UK

I do. In lots of ways they are intertwined. If Trump gets elected, I'd suggest that is good for no one, and may be a lot of bad.

Agreed, certainly don't want to see Trump elected, can then almost guarantee WW3, worst possible case scenario.

Starmer may be a "decent man", doesn't stop the left immediately if not already now plotting how they WILL unseat him.

And yes, based on the number of conservative MP's who have already stated they are stepping down, the conservatives I expect will be annihilated at the GE, but as the saying goes, careful what you wish for.

this is paranoid delusions

"doesn't stop the left immediately if not already now plotting how they WILL unseat him."

if we know anything about the left after last 8 years it's how inept they are. And if we know anything about Starmer and co is how ruthless he is with them. There is ZERO chance of the Corbyn wing unseating Starmer. It;s like listening to someone saying "yes Blair might get elected but Benn is plotting to unseat him"

Back to the nonsense that is going on at the moment.  Rumbles of discontent in the Tory party as many MPs fear annihilation.   No bounce from increasingly desperate measures; the manufactured culture wars in particular 'ending the war on motorists' having virtuyally no impact.  Most wont switch their votes due to LTNs, 20mph and ULEZ, and many who do will go to Reform and split the right wing vote.  I'd love a major party that would make the environment one of its central pledges.  LTNs of course were a Johnson initiative, one of the few things that I agree with him on.

The pity is that they wont go now, and will leave scorched earth for Labour to inherit late in the year.  The most pathetic example is the ads encouraging drivers not to hog the middle lane.  One of the least of the frustrations in terms of poor motoring, and not a patch on poor urban driving which kills and seriously injures far more.  Badged as National Highways rather than the 'desperate party'.   www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-campaign-targets-middle-lane-hogging-and-tailgating.

What a shame Starmer didn't take a stronger line following Uxbridge.  Well if those people prefer air pollution compared to improving health then stuff them.  Or even better this was a decision for our elected mayor, and stuff Uxbridge, it's hardly a target seat.

    • As a result of the Horizon scandal it now seems very clear that the Post Office management are highly disingenuous and not be trusted!  There needs to be a campaign launched to challenge the threatened closure, unless the Post Office can demonstrate beyond doubt that the branch is loss making - and even then it could argued that better management could address this. I hope the local media take this up and our MP  and a few demonstrations outside wouldn’t do any harm. Bad publicity can be very effective!
    • Unlikely. It would take a little more than a bit of Milton to alter the pH of eighty-odd thousand gallons of water.
    • It actually feels as though what I said is being analytically analysed word by word, almost letter by better. I really don't believe that I should have to explain myself to the level it seems someone wants me to. Clearly someones been watching way too much Big Brother.
