free sociable cycle rides Sat March 2nd

Recommended Posts

There are again two contrasting rides on March 2nd, a 4-4½ hour one from London Bridge to Alexandra Palace with a 9.30 start and a 2-2½ hour, 10 o’clock ride hunting dragons in the City.

Ride 1.  Mar 2nd. London Bridge to Alexandra Palace  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-alexandra-palace-tickets-845315079157 >  Ally Pally was 150 years old last year. We missed the anniversary but now intend to make up for that with a ride celebrating its 151st year. Start 9.30am, Southwark Gateway Needle, south side of London Bridge. Simon S. leading and aiming to get back around 1.30pm but please allow for a 2pm finish in your onward plans. 32 km (19 miles) and quite hilly. Route full of interest. Outward via Clissold Park, Woodberry Wetlands and Finsbury Park. Return via lovely off road Parkland Walk from Highgate to Finsbury Park, Emirates Stadium and Clerkenwell. Note Parkland Walk is unsurfaced and a bit bumpy. Last did this ride in Oct 2022, see report. Probable route: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1dnv6oM24W_KdAC159KSjM671i69IjW7d&usp=sharing.

Ride 2, Mar 2nd. Here be Dragons Ride.  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/here-be-dragons-ride-tickets-845317406117 > Start 10am, Southwark Gateway Needle, south side of London Bridge. Aim to finish 12.30.  Ride leader Jane says “It's the year of the dragon so let's do a tour of the 14 Dragons marking the City of London Boundary (or as many as we can find). Approximately 10km, usual easy-going pace, mostly flat, stopping for photos if necessary - coffee stop if we can find somewhere open!”. A 10km ride suitable for all types of cyclists and bikes. Everyone welcome. Likely route:  https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&mid=1x1ipXzPFsKg1MXzAC6qwqPHo7RI&ll=51.51497477010249%2C-0.0932499999999914&z=15

Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Same for “adults at risk”.  If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. How to cancel link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/help/en-gb/articles/575010/how-to-cancel-your-free-registration/

Note. Ride reports, often with photos and route maps, are posted to the Southwark Cyclists web site, yearly index links at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

    • Random question, I know.. is there somewhere local that sells sour dough starter?
    • They are not being rude they are giving a factual account of his character and behaviour.  Unstable is a good example.  Dishonest  criminal.  Mysogenist.  All accurate.
    • I can’t recommend Croydon Building Services Ltd enough! They turned my old, crumbling conservatory in East Dulwich into a gorgeous extension with a laundry area, a dining space, with some lovely bifold doors. On top of that, they sorted out my garden, paved the side return, and even did some tiling at the front of my house—all of it looks fantastic. What I really appreciated was how easy they were to work with. Their pricing was competitive, they kept me updated throughout the whole process, and they were happy to hear my ideas while also suggesting the best options for materials and costs. It felt like a real collaboration, and I’m so happy with how everything turned out. If you’re looking for builders who do great work and are easy to deal with, I’d definitely recommend giving them a call on 07482 386104. Check out before and after photos
    • I’m looking for tickets - 2 adults, 2 under-12s - for dulwich hamlet’s boxing day match, if anyone has ones they can no longer use. Cheers!!
