My uncle witnessed the collision (he was with his son and shielded him from seeing the impact) and he called the ambulance and the police. She survived although she was severely injured (she was alive when he left her in the ambulance). He is very shaken up by what he saw.
Yeah TT, thanks for your comment. It was actually a general question as I hoped she hadn't just fallen in front of the train by accident. Either way, it's still a terrible tragedy if she was killed. But by the sounds of it she survived, which is a miracle.

there was an incident on champion hill on tuesday i think... a motorcyclist went into a tree & died.....

really sad to hear about these incidents.... must be hard for the grieving families. hope the lady involved in todays incident recovers well...

as for toptree.... you certainly have a few tasteless posts on the forum!!!

There are likely to be more 'injuries' than just to the very sad woman who chose (if she did) to jump - the driver and witnesses may also be victims - some train drivers never work again, as drivers, following this sort of incident.

Those who are driven to kill themselves (if this was a suicide jump it certainly wasn't a 'cry for help') often have over-whelming reasons to do so - a 'recovery' with undoubtedly serious injuries and, presumably, the cause of the attempt still there, will hardly be easy, swift or indeed perhaps possible.

Overall, an immensely sad occurrence, with very little chance of any positive endings. If RichJ's report of a jump is accurate (which I have no reason to doubt) then there is very little chance this was a tragic accident, which makes it worse for surviving family or friends, I would guess.

I wrote based on what my Uncle saw - he left her alive in the ambulance. I didn't ask if he got her name or anything. He was with his son so he wanted to shield him from it as much as he could otherwise I'm sure he would have gone with her to the hospital, as would I had I been there.

Her injuries were severe, I don't think it's necessary to elaborate, however it is possible she could recover physically though she would be disabled. Many don't die instantly but as a result of their injuries. I hope the latter won't be her fate. Even in my darkest time, for want of a better phrase, I don't think I could have comtemplated such a way to go...

I am the wife referred to above, who was on the platform with my two children when this happened and very sadly, she did jump moments before the train passed and lay curled up on the tracks. It was desperately sad and from what I saw deeply affected all of the witnesses on the platforms, and no doubt devastated the train driver. Thank you A-Chan for your account from your uncle. I am so sorry to hear she was severely injured. When I managed to get my kids off the platform she was obviously in pain but seemed to have free movement, so I had hoped she was miraculously safe. I hope your Uncle and cousin are not too traumatised by it. I think I managed to shield my children and I think they don't know what happened although were shook up by the pandemonium that then ensued. It's only now they have gone to bed that I realise I am still a bit shaken up by it. When I returned to ED this afternoon, I asked at the station ticket desk, but they didn't have any update as to her condition.

I didn't really want to add a long message here, the reason I added to this thread, was mainly I wanted to comment on how well nearly everyone reacted to what happened (bar a lady complaining her would now be late for work). After the initial second of shock a number of people were immediately calling for the emergency services, whilst a number of other people were trying to keep the lady talking and comforted, and A-Chan's uncle obviously stayed with her despite having his own child with him. When I came off the station, a number of people stopped me to check I was ok and ask if I needed any help to get anywhere. And, as always, the emergency services, seemed to be top notch, sending a fleet of vehicles and the helicopter in what seemed like just a few minutes.

I often think we have a tendency to make the individual out to somehow be selfish or inconsiderate for not thinking of the effect their actions may have on others. Yes, other people would be effected. That's secondary to the person at the heart of this.

I'm not a psychologist so I'm not going to give an assessment on her probable frame of mind. I can only go on my personal experiences. I do believe a suicide attempt is a drastic action and for some it is a 'cry for help' and may be the final one.

Whatever the outcome, I hope she finds happiness.

    • Good for you. What happens when you get to sodding Tesco and the crappy instore Hermes terminal is broken, and the store workers aren't trained to fix it, and there's no way for the punter to contact Hermes IT (as if it were our job to fix it)? What happens when you get to the parcel locker to drop off a package and the machine can't scan the label that it itself printed several seconds beforehand? What happens when each shop requires a different bar code, QR code, reference code and ID to send and receive a simply package? These are all things that have happened to me in the last month alone, despite your implications that people who want to use the Post Office are thickies and troglodytes. It's all a stupid inefficient pain in the ring that is unnecessarily complicated. What is wrong with this country that it can't run a decent, simple post office?
    • Anyone doing a clearout?  I'm looking for a yoga bolster.  Thanks!
    • I use it on a weekly basis for a couple of reasons. It's generally always busy and well staffed. It's certainly more than just a drop off point for parcels and packages. I will use other shops on the lane whilst I'm down there. I'd imagine the PO being there brings a fair bit of footfall to the area.          As opposed to having to wait for customer in front of me to get there phone out, type in four digits to unlock the phones screen, then piss about scrolling to find the correct app before they eventually put the phone on the reader. Same in many Instances with cards. If you have such an issue with people using that dirty evil cash then surely the self service / card only tills are your friend!!
    • Total now £1,100. This will close in just under a week. Thanks for everyone's support
