bluesuperted
Sydenham is on! Was great this am, not packed at all although plenty of people about.Imagine it's VERY quiet now though due to the activities of a certain Scot! Saffron
Hilly Fields Park water is up and running in the playground. There is sand play also and a cafe at the top of the Park. Plus Ladywell Fields has a small stream running through it, which is a really nice natural play area. The stream is a dogleg of the Ravensbourne River running behind Lewisham Hospital. There's also a cafe, mini-skatepart (smallest ramp suitable for ~3yo on scooter), and two playgrounds. sarvester
Went to myatts field today and there was a sign up saying it was broken but actually it did come on every 20 minutes to the sound of massive cheering and frenzied jumping in the water from all the children...the sign said it would be fully working tomorrow but I am only reporting what the sign said, wouldnt vouch for it! Saffron
Inkmaiden Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Hilly Fields water wasn't working yesterday,> hopefully fixed soon.Boooo! It was on earlier. Hope it's not the same problem as before. I heard they had to specially order a part from Germany (although I don't know why that should take all summer... thought maybe Lewisham was just too cheap to turn on the water last year!) The Nappy Lady
Went to Sydenham Wells after school today & it was on & busy without being crazy. Hurrah!! crystal7
Is Sydenham Wells park doable on public transport? We went to Burgess Park this morning. They have water fountains outside the under fives playground off Albany Road. It was great, not crowded at all. Probably not enough for older children as the jets weren't very high but perfect for toddlers. The cafe is nice too and has good children's pasta and toasted sandwiches. There is a small car park but we went on the bus and walked from Walworth Road. EmilyPie
Does Sydenham wells have a cafe? Loving the idea of a water feature for entertaining the 2yo, but at 9months pg tea stops are essential! cactus
We take the 363 from Peckham Rye when we go to Sydenham Wells, can't quite remember the stop where we jump off (Wells Park Road?), but then it's only 10 minute walk down to the park.No cafe, so a picnic essential.Myatt's Fields and Brockwell Park are great, when they're on! But both can become very busy, so Sydenham Wells is nicer for being a bit more low key. The Nappy Lady
Yes you need your own supplies at Sydenham Wells but its a good play area with plenty of grass to sit down & shady places if required. I prefer it to Myatts Field from that point of view, though as the children get older its easier to position oneself a little further away & let them just 'boomerang' to check in at intervals. Best when not too busy tho! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/33973-sowhich-water-plays-are-open-people/#findComment-660103 Share on other sites

vanthorne
I don't suppose if anyone knows which water play areas were open today - would be interested in either hilly fields, brockwell park or sydenham wells...but don't want to get all the way there tomorrow and be disappointed. Thanks so much! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/33973-sowhich-water-plays-are-open-people/#findComment-660383 Share on other sites
Saffron
I was at Hilly Fields on Monday, and neither the pump nor the water fountain were working. :(Also, if anyone is going to Ladywell Fields, be aware of the road closure to through traffic in Ladywell at the bridge due to massive roads works. This is affecting the P4/122/484 bus services, although there is a free shuttle bus in place to amend the alterations to service. crescent
Can recommend 'paddling pool' at Croydon Rec in Beckenham, near the Odeon cinema and Beckenham Hospital (Beckenham Beacon?). Right next to great playground, and little hut selling chips/ tea/ juice too - what's not to love?
