Not sour grapes at all. I will give credit here it is due, but having seen Italy & Italian A teams in the flesh on their home turf, I know how cynical their game is.

The Italians seem to have this idea that they have a god given right to do well, AC Milan were supposed to shit all over us in the Champs league and we did it to them, in their own back yard as we did some season earlier to Inter, the same was supposed to happen when they played the Dutch and again they got their backsides kicked. I really don't rate the Italians who are an aging squad, the midfield seems to be totally dependant on AC and their arrogance is less than palatable.

Well played Austria last night, who should have been 3 nil up by half time but spurned all the chances and almost paid the ultimate price of being knocked out, hard to see them triumphing over the Germans but you never know.

Atila my darling you smack of arrogance. i have no idea what games you are refering to but remember we italians have Seria a with a group of fine players who you will find in the italian squad. The reason you dont see italian players in the english club game is because the italians want to stay loyal and patriotic to their country.

Are there any other italians on here who can second chair me on this debate over the italians

Yet again you Italians were made to look very ordinary tonight, as for italian players staying loyal to Italian clubs it's probably because the vast majority wouldn't cut it in the hurly burly of the Premier league. serie a has to be one of the most boring leagues to watch, that's not arrogance but a fact.

I'd not rule out Italy just yet though. Time amd time again we see outstanding teams in group stages get knocked out in the later stages. Italy are quite capable of beating France I think, and then scraping through the knockout stages by attrition and penalty shoot-ouuts. But of course Holland may yet play the Second XI against Roumania!

I hope Spain and Holland prosper because these two teams have thus far played a far superior game to the rest. Anyone know if Holland v Spain could be a finalor are they doomed to meet earlier on?

I lived in Germany for a while, so I do have a connection with the place, its not just anti Ingerlish petty sentiment - I am not run of the mill ABE - If I were, then it would be Croatia all the way

Germany also play good strong football ( sometimes ) as do France ( but less often it would seem these days ).Happy to support he Czechs as I had a good weekend there for the Scotland game last month and know a few czechs

In he absence of my team in teh finals, Im happy to support a team that I have respect for and also fond memories of he country & people.

Italy ? having been spat upon, herded into prison buses and dumped in the suburbs of MIlan and Torino at 1AM after Games in Italy, I cant say the same about the place. The less said about Bari last year, with their oppressive police, fascist ULtras, Alchohol ban and crumbling rickety grounds, the better.

fair enough Snorks, connection is good, I don't mind the Germans, my Gran was, and I liked the Croatians even before Bilic, and they thoroughly deserved to show up an arrogant but poor England side, so they're my second team.

The whole ABE thing does wind me up though, so as it doesn't apply here I shall swallow my words and perhaps even eat my hat ;-)

Germany has the best beer in the world without any argument , Czech a close second ( even if it is all interbrew etc nowadays ).

Peroni is appalling chemical slop and amaretto give me the runs

Have had a handful of trips that have combined fotball & belgium - most noteably after seeing Brazil-Scotland in the opening game of WC98 - I cant do too much Belgie beer, it makes me lethargic and sleepy, whereas 15 hours on 20 cl glasses of Kolsch invigorates me

I even like the ubiquitous Cruzcampo when im in Spain

Snorky! Behave yourself. I was in Bari for that game last year and I had a truely fantastic, memorable time. Some of the younger locals a bit snarly but they were all fine when we just lifted our kilts Braveheart style.

We had locals queueing up to get their picture taken with us. And best memory was my mad cousin befriending a local publican who us jump behind his Jungle theme bar and serve our mates (and ourselves of course) all night.

It was time to leave when, dancing on a ladder I smashed giant porcelin toadstool and fell over. I paid the owner 40 Euros for it - such is the Scotland way and a local lent me her bike to get back to my hotel, getting me to follow her boyfriend on a moped all the way.

I was zig zagging all over busy road at 3am on a chopper in just in my kilt and a "Scotlands's For me!" T shirt before finally got arrested for drunk cycling. A laughing policeman gave me a lift back to bed.
