Free weights (not necessarily heavy ones) is one of the activities older people most benefit from. They help stop muscle deterioration and promote stability in a way cardio- and weight-based-machines do not. It is a common misconception that free weights = bodybuilders. There isn't really any substitute for free weights whereas e.g. instead of using a treadmill you can go for a walk or a run or attend a class (and it's much more environmentally friendly!) -
Vinton and his team did an excellent job repainting inside my house after some building work, he was friendly and efficient, I definitely reccomend him.

If you can make the opening hours work (because of the College) then Dulwich College Sports Club is very good and well equipped. From memory, four power racks, heavy DBs, GHR and a cable machine. Australia and Romania used it for their training base in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and the College itself has a high-level sports programme, hence the decent kit.

If a family at a time of great grief says “please, no donations” and others - well meaning individuals, no doubt - go against that, I consider that to be antagonising behaviour. Just do as they ask and, if you are inclined, make a donation to a charity of your choice.
