Carpgirl
Any one on here remove wasps nests? One in the shed. I don't live at the house it's tenanted and the tenants would like it removed. Has anyone had this done locally please? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/33722-wasps-nest/ Share on other sites

fl0wer
Again - leave them be. For the sake of tolerating them for a few months, it doesn't cost much. They will die away in the first frosts, October time. Before that a few young will have flown off to hibernate then start colonies elsewhere. These are important, add to UK stocks of pollinator insects. Carpgirl
I'm afraid it's not my decision ultimately Fl0wer but I'll speak to the tenants & explain. Thanks Kidkruger someone did tell me someone was looking for them which is why I've posted but I can't find the thread. lizbells6
Please note that the London Beekeepers DON'T collect wasps nests and I'm afraid we don't move bumble bees nests either. We can collect swarms of honey bees from gardens, trees, outside walls etc up to an accessible height, within a day or two of them arriving. The swarm is then taken to a local apiary to be quarantined and checked for disease and a laying queen. We have a waiting list of members wanting new colonies. JimH
get a broomstick, whack the beehive as hard as you can (so that it falls off) and run for dear life!!they cannot fly as fast as you can run! make sure you have a good escape route and leg it (no pets or kids in the way). after a few angry minutes/hours they will bugger off and leave you wasp free! Thank me later Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/33722-wasps-nest/#findComment-747440 Share on other sites

dimples
If your talking about wasps then I got the pest control in and they smoke them out , don't try yourself ! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/33722-wasps-nest/#findComment-747448 Share on other sites
PippaD
This easy method seems to work but takes a few days.If you can find the entrance to the nest, and are brave enough, use any colour paint directly under the entrance! The theory is (it did work for us, many years ago) is that the wasps leave but can not return because the paint distorts their perception to see the opening.Eventually the queen has to leave as all workers have gone!Good luck, this is only a stop gap while you wait for pest control Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/33722-wasps-nest/#findComment-747551 Share on other sites

pinecone
Some of these nests can be quite large. Do the pest control people recommended above actually remove the nest or state when it should be ok to remove?
