malumbu
A few years ago I bought a few of CDs recommended on the Guardian's 100 albums to hear before you die. I found it difficult to get into bands that I'd missed first time round such as the Pixies (how on earth did I miss them) and Gang of Four whereas for others such as the Flaming Lips it was immediate. I've just looked through this: www.pastemagazine.com/music/debut-albums/100-greatest-debut-albums-of-all-time-2?utm_source=pocket-newtab-en-gb Some great choices and some odd ones. Pleased to see that Wire Pink Flag was on there, different to above I've grown to like them. Should the Queen is Dead be there rather than the first Smiths Album? Where are Gil Scott-Heron and Mark E Smith? First Dexy's album anyone? And Clash first album vs London Calling? Think all of this is UK and US bands so forgets about the rest of the world, and nothing that is in a different language Seen about 15 of those listed, and ditto for albums some even on vinyl What do you reckon? What are your faves?? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/337037-best-albums-ever/ Share on other sites
Sephiroth
QID should definitely be ranked (significantly) higher than first 2 Smiths albums my favourite (and therefore subjectively best ever) would include: Tindersticks - 2nd album Fatima Mansions - Viva Dead Ponies Bowie - Low male and white heavy I know. SpringTime
Mine are more male, white and heavy. Malumbu, are you looking for debut suggestions in particular, or simply all time faves regardless of release sequence. Spartacus
Long "Cleve" Reed & Little Harvey Hull (The Down Home Boys) with "Don't You Leave Me Here" is a particular old favourite of mine and I like to crank it up when I can Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/337037-best-albums-ever/#findComment-1646551 Share on other sites

Earl Aelfheah
Not a bad list. Like you say it's all very subjective and context specific (as in, when and where you grew up and what was going on at the time). Surprised Kind of Blue isn't on there though.. and no Prince, even though he gets several mentions in the quotes from other artists in the article. Regardless of personal taste, both Miles and Prince hugely influential. ...and no Sonic Youth, no Pixies, no Nirvana? Should definitely have Screamadelica and Loveless on there too. Whoever put that list together couldn't have grown up in the 90s Edited November 26, 2023 by Earl Aelfheah Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/337037-best-albums-ever/#findComment-1647561 Share on other sites
