Ride 1  Hidden secrets: Peckham to London Bridge Loop < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/hidden-secrets-peckham-to-london-bridge-loop-ride-tickets-728824592977

10am start from Peckham Square (by Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY). Simon S leading. The route takes in lots of hidden gems, including the Skip House, Iliffe Yard artisan workshops, Royal Surrey Zoological Gardens (Pasley Park), a Tangerine Tree, some WWII stretchers and Del Boy’s Reliant Robin. About 12 miles, very flat, taking 2.5 hours - which gives us time for a coffee stop at the Little Cat Café in Myatt’s Field Park.  Will as usual ride as much as possible on quiet streets and paths. We last did this ride in Nov 2021 with the emphasis on flood risk. The sea levels predicted if CO2 targets are missed would mean most of the route would be under water.  Pause for thought…  Route on Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1bwtJBZIypO6HXpAGPUrD9QqKhm2xlOw&usp=sharing . GPX route file attached.

Ride 2. Burgess Park to Wandsworth and Putney  < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/burgess-park-to-wandsworth-and-putney-cycle-ride-tickets-728835535707 >.

Start/Finish Burgess Park (Fuorvito Cafe, Chumleigh Gardens, Off Albany Rd. SE5 0RJ). Start 10am, finish 1.30pm. Outward route will go via Vauxhall and Battersea Power Station to Battersea Park. Then across the park and on to the nice paths along the Battersea and Wandsworth riverside, eventually reaching Wandsworth Park. Coffee break in Wandsworth Park during return, but sadly no time for a round on the well-maintained Crazy Golf Course. If time, for those who wish to, will lead a further 1km to have a look at the rowers on the Putney Embankment. Return route has great contrasts. Back along the river to the bridge over Bell Lane Creek, the mouth of the River Wandle. Then head south into Wandsworth town centre along shared use pavement and across cycle crossings to avoid the traffic on the 1-way system. Next King George’s Park with a nice path by the Wandle. At the south end of the park, turn left and start heading home via Wandsworth and Clapham Commons. 28km, a lot of park and riverside is traffic free. Bruce leading. Route at https://goo.gl/94U3Ve.  Last ridden May 7th 2022, report at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2022/burgess-park-to-wandsworth-may-7th-2022/

These rides are organised by Southwark Cyclists and are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

    • They plan to close the Mount Pleasant Office, absolute and utter madnesss
    • We are sadly saddled with the three stooges till July 2029 because they have such a far reaching majority, that is the problem when you give a party that level of support.  The ship was being turned around by the last Administration and given all their faults, errors, misdemeanours its not surprising that that got and probably deservedly so out of Office.  But if what has just happened over the past 100+ days since the new Administration took power, we are in for a very bumpy ride and peoples lives will ALL be affected. They say they champion the poor, well all they've done so far by taking away the winter fuel allowance (not eligible for it) and increasing employers national insurance, as sure as eggs is eggs, prices will increase and that hits everyone in the pocket, including the poorest in society. You can only shake the money tree so often, after which time it's Empty. What that means is the cost of providing benefits increases, where does the money then come from.  To then take on the farmers who feed part of the economy is utter madness, because if they blockade food supplies then people will go hungry, not necessarily starve. You don't shoot the hand that feeds you.  Their is enough written about the three stooges, Starmer, Reeves and Rayner, I have no idea if they are supposed "communists", but what I have seen is that free speech is being eroded, that can never be good for a democracy, where people are scared to speak out.  How does all this change, the people will eventually have had enough and rise up against the Govt. It has to happen eventually. Even is Starmer went you are left with Reeves and Rayner. Personally O don't trust either, it will be more of "do as I say, not as I do".
    • Thanks for the invite, although most people will be at work or at school. It's a Monday morning...
