Hmm. Was asking if there were any signs of Vegetarian Week, eg in cafes or shops in SE22-ish?

(Don't know if "Bacon Sarnie" is really complete response to idea of combatting world hunger, but there you go).

If it gets any worse I shall have to consider posting quotes from Paul McCartney.

commondreams - 10 reason's to go veggie site - represents an ill informed, unbalanced and biased point of view. It's polemic propoganda and things are not nearly as simple as the site makes out.

That said, I regulary eat veggie and might doff my veggie cap to ganapati to mark the week

I don't think there's any reliable study that shows an increased tendency to compose songs about frogs, or even don tartan or marry ladies who are too keen on having their photograph taken.

That's what I was hoping to find out. Hoped there might be somewhere, anywhere, local, that would make a bit of an imaginative effort re veggie food this week.

I heard the chucks are breaking out the champagne down at the battery farm.

Those fine folks from the Croydonvegetarians.co.uk know how to celebrate too. They're having a vege Beat the Banger competition in conjunction with the local buddhist group

Seems Croydon is the vegetarian epicentre for the week.

East Dulwich out-evented by Croydon. How shaming.

Any suggestions from actual local vegetarians, as to how we can redeem ourselves?

That?s a good idea SteveT. We could have a vegetarian themed curry club this month (I hope I will eventually make it again)

I?m not a vegetarian myself* but I do play one on tv.

*I tried once but they said I had to give up black pudding and sausages no matter how I remonstrated about neither of them actually being meat.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
