Part of my job tomorrow is to set and assess teamwork. Unfortunately for me there are only 2 people on the course and as one is hardly literate, they cannot easily carry out the set task which is " make a presentation together on..( something like how to find a job)" to involve time management skills, problem solving, practical skills, written communication, leadership etc

The only team exercise I know is the one with the paper and sellotape make a tower type thing- but thats not going to last long enough, and not really good enough

Anyone else have any ideas? office based- 2 people - one a shy 50 year old msn, one a 19 year old with L1 literacy levels.

I am getting no where with google on this :(

I've seen a variant on the 'paper tower' idea which was to build a freestanding pineapple out of paper/sellotape. That did take quite a bit longer...

Alternatively, there's a good one for communication (although again it might not last long enough) where you put them back to back and give one of them a picture. Then you hand out paper and pens to the other and tell them to start. They have to figure out what you want them to do by talking about what they are holding and then figure out that the one with the picture is going to describe it to the other who has to try to draw it. But I suspect you can only really string it out for 10 minutes or so.

I realise that you are saying one is barely literate but could they come up with a presentation together that has to be entirely visual/aural (i.e. without words)?

You could try the one where you put different topics on pieces of paper and get them to pick one out of a paper bag. They then have to give a speech about it for 60 seconds without hesitation or stopping. Eg, television, summer, or anything that fits into the theme of the course they're taking. There's always giggles etc but this could give them the confidence to take part in a presentation.

Thanks Alice.

They called it Big ben and said it was for decorative purposes !( I know...)

But I spoke to someone else on the train who told me about a plane crash scenario where you have to make a list of 10 things to get from a plane which has crashed to survive on,and I did that too , so there was definitely some written and oral communication.

They enjoyed both tasks.

Thanks everyone.

    • I'm so sorry to hear Bean hasn't returned home. It hasn't been a particularly good day for weather, so I do hope she's just sheltering nearby until the rain settles down. Are there any renovations/construction sites nearby? In the meantime, notify your street & surrounding area (many have Whatsapp groups) Where are you located? Hopefully it doesn't come to this, but just in case, Dox will print & deliver 50 free missing posters https://www.doxdirect.com/help/free-missing-pet-posters/ Try calling for her this evening & early hours of the morning when street & foot traffic is at its lowest (in case she's found herself out front). Often times, when it comes to unusual disappearances, it's neighbouring renovations, general construction work, fireworks or weather that sends them into hiding. They can end up finding themselves in unfamiliar places. Is Bean microchipped? Our team carry scanners on our daily routes & will keep a look out for her. I hope you are reunited with Bean soon. • The fact that some people in England seem to be narrowly focussed on the eejit that is mandelson whilst ignoring the real villains in the whole Epstein thing is… revealing  and those villains are lauded and unaffected

    • Our beloved cat Bean is missing - last seen heading outside  in the early hours of this morning (Weds 18 Feb). She doesn’t usually stay out long or stray far from the garden. She is always home for breakfast and usually sleeps inside all day, so we’re very worried about her. Please let me know if you see her. Thank you
