Since I can’t seem to book a test anywhere in London for the rest of this year, it got me thinking about the different venues. I think the nearest ones to me are Hither Green, West Wickham and Mitcham.

in the event of maybe being able to book a test next year, does anyone have any wisdom to pass on about these test centres or any others? Any tricky sections of road that are best avoided? Do local instructor favour any particular centre?

Hi I know how frustrating it is to get a test.  I'm local instructor my favourite test centres are Westwickham and Bromley. Also few others that are ok and fairly local. Hither Green Sidcup Mitcham. Another centre I use is Sevenoaks. Trying to get a test that's the problem at the moment. Go on DVSA sight first thing in morning Monday around 6 am best and just keep searching.  Good luck!

Back when I passed my test (10~ years ago) I found a list of test centres and pass rates. I don't know if it was a result of a FOI request or something but at the time West Wickham had a higher pass rate of about 3% than anything else local. I passed first time. Good luck and remember safely is the most important thing!

Oh gosh, that’s so crazy an amount of time to have to wait..do you mind my asking where you learnt to drive?

i think I’m wanting to do automatic lessons to try and make it a little more simple for me but am finding it hard to locate a place that has availability around my work schedule..any tips would be so kind!

thank you and good luck with the test track down🤞

My granddaughter gave up on trying to book driving lessons. She had a few but at the time she was on shift work at Princess Royal Hospital so could do lessons during the weekday. She past her theory test but needs more lessons to take practical test but cannot find anyone who has space for lessons at the weekend as she now works Monday to Friday in Islington and living in Walthamstow.

I took my lest in the last century - failed in Norwood but passed in Hither Green. West Wickham is a good place to go - plenty of wide streets. Good Luck

Hi I just took my test, you have to wake up and log in at 6am on a Monday and book for the 1 week that is 6 months ahead that they release at that time. By 6:01 they’re all gone for Hither Green and Bromley so be quick. I ended up getting Bromley!

    • I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.
    • Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
    • Yes thanks that's exactly the choices I get.  I will block and if somehow they find a way back I'll report.
