Besides, if it encourages more people to pick up that's got to be a good thing. The council has a street cleaning team dedicated to responding to calls from the public to remove dog mess from pavements, but of course that also comes from the local public purse. Nappy sacks and poo bags are ideal for the purpose. Most carrier bags are not as many have holes in them to prevent children from suffocating themselves and as such allow faeces to ooze through, which puts many people off using them. first mate
jrussel,Not sure public funds should be used to clear up broken glass, cigarette butts, used chicken bones, chewing gum (gosh the list is endless) users have not cleared up on their own initiative. You seem fixated on the dog issue in particular. What is your solution? jumpinjackflash
Eileen, does the event include a dog show?! My mutt lost out to a Ridgeback at the last dog event in the Rye - he might fare better this year! MadWorld74
there's dog shit all over the bloody pavements round my next of the woods, and the bloody buggers have even managed to get a bulls-eye right into the middle of those 'don't let you dog foul here' yellow srayed on signs on the pavement. Funny. Not. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3297-dog-fouling-in-the-east-dulwich-area/page/2/#findComment-103435 Share on other sites

Pity we haven't had more notice so we could have advertised it widely to all those who need some dog education ... But there is still time to get the info out and try to increase the number of owners trained on how to be good owners. SteveT
Dropping cigar butts cost ?80 and dog fouling at ?50 does not make any sense.Does the punishment fit the crime(?)In my opinion seanmlow has been stitched up. jrussel
It does seem a little disproportionate that someone should be fined ?80 for a cigarette butt, but only ?50 for dog faeces. I don't think anyone can argue that a cigarette butt is the easier of the two items to clean up, nor the lesser health and safety hazard. As regards the comments about the free dog waste bags: as a practical solution, I suppose it works, to subsidise dog owners from the public purse in this way, if it will stop them from leaving the mess on the pavements which will be even more costly to clean up. The point is, though, that they should not be leaving the mess in the first place, and the same applies to anyone else whether they are dropping cigarette butts, broken glass, childrens' sweets wrappers or anything else. The same applies to many things - we subsidise smokers when they're in hospital with lung cancer, and they shouldn't be smoking in the first place. Asset
yes but we subsidise non smokers also - all those ill people, gawd - and many smokers don't end up in hosp due to their affliction and just pop off quietly after 50 years of 20 a day. Let's abolish the NHS. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3297-dog-fouling-in-the-east-dulwich-area/page/2/#findComment-104084 Share on other sites

kookylittlestar
I've noticed a lot of small turds resembling dog mess around my road, As we keep seeing a family of four foxes in our garden and seem to be hearing a lot of foxes in the area I wondered if they could be to blame? Particularly as there are 3 small cubs who obviously have been recent additions to the population (plus I assume there are others), possibly hence the sudden spate in mess!
