Or is that your mantra to justify making London more congested for buses ? Unbelievable As for removing the car Lane across Waterloo Bridge, that would remove access to taxis, disabled drivers , delivery vehicles ambulances and so on.. but its alright in your eyes as cyclists are king and "a short slender sharp pointed metal pin with a raised helical thread running round it and a slotted head" anyone else eh ? Do you like to police everyone's clothing or just people you hate? 39 minutes ago, Spartacus said: As for removing the car Lane across Waterloo Bridge, that would remove access to taxis, disabled drivers , delivery vehicles ambulances and so on.. We both know exceptions could easily be made for taxis, disabled drivers and emergency vehicles. And indeed any vehicles out of congested hours. But I will give you bonus points for claiming the moral high ground in favour of, well, every demographic that's underrepresented in car usage while advocating that nothing be done to restrict cars! 😉 I don't particularly see why package delivery should be exempted. It's a big cause of congestion and pollution and much of it can be done by bike. heartblock
It's a fact that the LCC had far too much input into 'redesigning' road space in London. At the same time as key figures in LCC (white/male/straight/able-bodied/middle-class) were putting out some very dodgy messages about certain ethnic groups. Anyways... the people excluded from these discussions were disability groups, residents, TFL and the London Ambulance Service - so what does that say about who was prioritised and who wasn't. Disability and impairment doesn't come with a badge, pass or equal access and this Government is planning to take even more access, funding and benefits away. If you want less reliance on cars campaign for buses to be funded centrally, more bus lanes and more local bus services...otherwise your commitment to less car use is just mealy mouthed, feathered guff. How small minded of you, I'm talking delivery vehicles to shops, resturants, cafes and other businesses not amazon packages. Without these deliveries, London businesses will cease to be and don't say "cargo bike" as I'm sure a full delivery to a local supermarket won't fit on a cargo bike. As for lycra, it's a very peculiar thing in the UK that cyclist feel they need to dress like they are all in the tour de France and wearers think they have the right to pass through red lights and crossing like they are invisible. Personally I think they all look like twits. But that's my own personal opinion and one i am entitled to hold, so yes I will scoff them for wearing lycra, cleats and other silly things which seem to make them more aggressive cyclists. 😜 Edited June 18, 2023 by Spartacus 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/327879-ltn-discussion/page/91/#findComment-1627339 Share on other sites

Doesn't work like that. 14 hours ago, Spartacus said: Point 3, lycra obsession seems to be a favourite of cyclists not me, I just think that it's unnecessary for a quick ride from here to central London. Merely wearing is "obsession" in your mind? Are you obsessed with underpants then: they too are unnecessary. No my fine fellow, everyone who drags Lycra into the topic of conversation especially in the context of how much they hate cyclists is deeply obsessed. That includes you. People with a healthy attitude don't care nearly so strongly what other people are wearing, and certainly don't use general categories of clothing as an excuse to hate someone. 14 hours ago, Spartacus said: The dangerous infrastructure comment Interesting! something you're not denying. TfL moved them out a while ago to seal off the cycle lane from the road and in doing so removed the bus lane. That's the issue here, cyclists are now given priority over our mass transit devices, buses. How on earth does that make sense, even in your head? This isn't true. TfL don't manage Waterloo Bridge. Its owned by the city of Westminster who moved the barriers as it was pointed out that having Hostile Vehicle Mitigation barriers implemented whilst also having a bus lane that terrorists using said Hostile Vehicles could still access wasn't meeting the risk assessment. So blaming it on cyclists is also not correct. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/327879-ltn-discussion/page/91/#findComment-1627510 Share on other sites
malumbu
There's a big difference between negative associations with cyclists and some of the hard-line posts being made. I started the mental health thing, a bit clumsy, which I tried to explain in a separate post. Two of you were having a nonsense go at cyclists, I was simply trying to say that this anger looked like an obsession. An irrational obsession. You can read mental health issues into this but I expect that most of us get like this sometime, and it is good to consider how we personally can address such feelings, no doubt exacerbated as our anger is unlikely to change things. What are my current obsessions? Well in the past it was popcorn in cinemas. And people filming everything, particular at concerts. Bloomin barmy. But I've had to step back or else I'd never leave the house. I don't hate these people, just find it annoying. As for filming in portrait rather than landscape, that's just brain dead. Thought it amusing that the Tories used this in a recent campaign. Interesting to hear about hostile vehicle mitigation. Had a vague involvement in this once. They put this up on my commute, Lambeth Bridge, but have very much changed my career post COVID so work cycling very much local. Of course traffic management South side of Lambeth Bridge is nuts, but not sure which local authority to rant at 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/327879-ltn-discussion/page/91/#findComment-1627547 Share on other sites
first mate
The mental health 'advice' was really clumsy, on so many levels. You say you get obsessed by some things but that you don't feel anger or hatred while insisting that others do feel anger, to the point they need help. Just because you and Mr C get wound up about negative comments calling out some cyclists, some cycling behaviour or a bit of mockery based on what a small subset of cyclists wear, doesn't make it hate, anger or obsession. It is just your view, perhaps even a little bit of projection. mr.chicken
You seem a bit sensitive about light mockery, @first mate. Might I recommend that if you dislike being on the receiving end then you perhaps should avoid being on the giving end? Edit: Boris uses those tactics for a reason, specifically because reason, logic and facts aren't on his side so he wants to convince people by appealing to their lower instincts. Your defense is that you're not racist. I'm 100% sure that's true, but don't you think that's an awfully low bar?
