Nice sentiment Spartacus, but there are sufficient crimes reported to instigate a deployment of police.
it’s not happening. There are no police attending or being visible.

What level of crime do you think sets the trigger for police to well, police?

Or rather, what do you think is necessary in order for adequate funding to be given to the police force?

Jules-and-boo

The current model for SNT's is less than it was ten years ago as focus was shifted to other areas of policing.

There is a shift back towards local SNTs being boosted again but that depends on which areas are shouting (showing crime stats) the loudest and recruitment of new officers.

Sadly the tasking our beat bobbies get stretches them thin and big events see them put on duties away from the area which effects our visibility of them.

Most of the time they possibly walk down the same street as you but you may well miss them as there are so few bobbies on the beat. I bet, however, you see or hear the response cars more.

As to how much reporting is required, obviously more than is occurring now, if the commander sees a spike of say 10 to 25% in an area of reported crime then they will respond but if its unreported crime they don't have the statistics to support more officers and they deploy extra resources where crime is being reported more.

As said, don't accept crime, report it and get those resources focused on the area.

As above.  As a regular attendee over the past 5 plus years at SNT meetings - the police are frequently stating that unless a crime is reported they cannot do anything. The most apparent was when a series of similar burglaries/attempted burglaries were reported  both in person to the officers or via emails, it was quickly established that these followed a pattern in terms of entries/locations/times of day etc and could be linked to a known suspect. It was discovered that this known criminal had just been released from prison and was up to his previous tricks.  A further arrest was made and a longer jail sentenced was passed.

Following on from the comments about graffiti above. Looks as though Southwark is planning to provide ground height graffiti removal services to private property / infrastructure without charge going forward - proposal on website awaiting formal sign off with service to commence this month.

Might be something that everyone can agree on for once?

Hi Everyone

On Thursday 12th October we will be holding a Public Meeting about a new scheme launching in Dulwich to help keep kids safe on their journey home from school Love Your Doorstep Community Patrol Scheme

My organisation has been running the scheme very successfully in North London for 4 years and we have now partnered with the Metropolitan Police to deliver this to other communities.

A group in Dulwich reached out to me a few months back and I’m pleased to say the scheme will be starting after the October half term. This is a great opportunity for local people to become volunteers and make a huge difference.

Here is the registration form for the event - https://forms.gle/mJUksvH3LdBCbGK86 please register to attend.

Please see details below and we look forward to meeting you.

Thanks Emma

I hope so. Far too many landlords/owners of businesses in and around here pull down the shutters and give no hoots about the ugly frontages they leave for the rest of us to see. Most of Southwark is blighted with this problem - all the shops on Rye Lane and most on Old/New Kent Roads are covered in scrawl.

    • Some people don’t like it, some people will love it.  It doesn’t bother me at all. In fact I quite like it. I do not like assumptions you make about ‘elderly people’.
    • This concerns me as it essentially disregards the significant number of people who do experience a high level of disruption because of the event.  While it's great that you personally are not inconvenienced, this is absolutely not the case for a great many residents many of whom are elderly or who do not have private gardens and rely on the park.   Great that you have a PHD in ecology but might also be worth reading the report into the environmental impact of Gala which paints a rather different story to yours. This comes round every year with a request to extend. This seems to me to be a distraction to steer everyone away from the main event. However, Southwark Council and Councillor Catherine Rose in particular must bear responsibility for what is effectively privatisation of our community space.  I requested data on the results of the last consultations and had to use a subject access request to get it.  In 2024 the council received 111 responses of which 108 were negative. The event went ahead. Last year they received 136 of which 82 were negative and 34 said only with major changes (which did not happen).   The impact of the event on the community and the enviroment is well-documented.  The council has so far refused to supply data on the demographics of the attendees but it doesn't take much to work out that this is largely single under 30s from out of borough judging by the steady stream of people from the station.   Please do take time to protest and also to email Events as we try to hold the council accountable for their disregard of the public consultation results. • I'd like to recommend Marius who recently built bespoke alcove cabinets and bookshelves for me at a very reasonable price. All was done quickly, the units are fitted perfectly and he tidied up after himself everyday. Marius: 07459 195 564
