The Green Chain Walk, South East London’s 52 mile footpath is within ED’s sphere.

New guidance to the network has just been published by the Ramblers jointly with TfL and a general overview showing its 15 sections is here…

The whole network’s directions are here…

It’s truly worth exploring this path. There’s splendid landscape and woodland as one goes further east and the further you go the better it gets!

Thank-you, hpsaucy, for replying. You and others on ED might wonder why there’s been so little mention from me about the Green Chain Walk in recent years. I used to post quite often!

In 2016 the lead Borough in the local authority consortium that managed the footpath, the Royal Borough of Greenwich, dropped out. There’s been no maintenance, management or promotion since.

TfL’s Walk London project offered guided walks on the network until May 2018 which I led.

TfL had financed most of the waymarking and together with the Ramblers they are attempting to revivify the network. The directions I’ve sent links to are a first stage.

Walk London’s closure was met with dismay and I was asked to continue with offering guided walks by hundreds of participants. The walk’s span London although they do still visit the Green Chain several times each year.

Hi there - yes I had!

I'm sorry to hear about all that upheaval but, having been on one of your excellent walks, am extremely glad you are still doing them. I'll be taking your advice and heading out east when I can.

Such a treasure the Green Chain. It sounds as though TfL and The Ramblers might be a good mix to manage/preserve it?

    • Professional and high quality work. Highly recommended. Brian and his team did an excellent job repairing and repainting damaged render on the side-wall of my terraced house. The job entailed work to the ridge of the roof. Brian organised a complicated but fairly priced scaffolding design that no other company offered (while being safe and licensed). Brian rebuilt damaged brick work, render and his paint work is incredibly neat. Brian’s experience shows in his work. I had great communication throughout the job.
    • Wouldn't it make more sense to ask the guy who posted the rumours for the source of the information? The Crown & Greyhound refurb was a big job - not surprising that it took longer than just a simple repainting. But renovating the Grove would be even bigger because it's totally wrecked, and there's a shortage of skilled labour and much more expensive materials now...
    • Rather bizarrely, I received a text from TJ surgery offering this service. To be clear, no data was asked for in the text so I don't suspect a scam but surely this is dodgy? Where does my DNA info end up and who would have access? I'm going to the surgery on the invite date to ask precisely this.
    • I used Emmaus https://emmaus.org.uk/slc/ to clear my grandfathers house last year. They were great. They all charge for this service so will come and give you a quote first.
