The signs say nothing about term time as far as I can see so yeah, the council would then stand to make money from fines related to restrictions that were put in to deal with school term-related concerns. Perhaps Southwark has a department of “and they wonder why they don’t like or trust us”?

Well the TMO states term time only as does the Southwark schools streets page. I’m generally fairly down on Southwark but I doubt they’d do something so cynically unlawful.

I agree the closures are badly placed and will trap traffic. In the consultation and directly to the highways team (copying my local councillors) I suggested bringing the closure back to the corner of Nutbrook or at least advanced warning signs further up Adys and Nutbrook. Unfortunately I was ignored.

Just to add that fines are being implemented in the summer holidays as well, contrary to the information provided by the council earlier. Maybe it is possible to challenge them?

Hi, I just wondered what people's thoughts are on appealing PCNs? I always remember to check the time when I am driving down i.e. from Oglander road towards Crystal Palace Road but I just forgot when going back home the other way - it was only just 2 mins after 3pm.

On the one hand I get it, them's the rules, just shut up and pay the fine. On the other hand, why should I pay £65 to the council to keep a road clear that didn't even have any children on it or any parents or any sign of activity? It was totally deserted so why do I have to pay soooooo much for the privilege of driving down it?!

Don't mean to start a big debate, just looking for some thoughts on whether it is worth appealing and if so what to say?!

Thanks

I understand your frustration seemster! Most schools don’t finish until 3.30pm so you would think you could drive as normal along a local street before this time but alas no. Once the school streets have been set in motion by Southwark Labour then I’m afraid there’s nothing you can do and sadly I would say to you to pay the fine. The Dulwich Village system is the same since it started and people living and driving as normal have been bombarded with the local Labour councillors’ ideas and regulations and carers and family members are affected.
I’m in the process of appealing a PCN at the Morrison’s car park in Camberwell at the moment and awaiting a reply. I have proof I paid at the ticket machine so that’s the only reason I’m appealing.

I just got pinged on this today. Useless signage  - at least Townley Road is much clearer.  Just a money making exercise for the council.  Pathetic.  Can't drive anywhere in Dulwich these days  - either takes forever to get out of the neighbourhood (why a 20mph on major South Circular road for goodness sake) or you get pinged.  Great improvement Southwark! Not to mention subjective interpretation of all residents' feedback, which does not support LTNs. If I misinterpreted data like this for my job I would be sacked!

At first There was good signage displaying  prohibited  times, in nutbrook street near the junction of Adys road but this has been replaced with a smaller sign that just says ‘school street ahead’ with no tines shown and doesn’t give cars enough time or information to make a decision.

Can we alert counsellors to this change?

That’s not fair. I’d appeal if I got a ticket based on a too small sign and especially if it replaced a previous larger one.

That’s an extra sign isn’t it? The one with the timings was still there recently.

That’s once you’ve turned left into Adys from Nutbrook though, not in the feeder road, and by the time you see it you will have to do a three point turn to avoid as Amott is forbidden.

Mate, the speed limit could be 70mph along there, and all you'd do is get to the next traffic light six seconds earlier and with a massive increase in danger and emissions.

I’ve just noticed the ‘school street’ sign also has arrow pointing to right implying the school street is to the right when it’s to the left.

    • Age discrimination is illegal, but like other forms of unfair discrimination still happens, because if an employer doesn't want to employ someone they can usually find some other  reason unrelated to their actual ability to do the job. As said above, definitely don't put your age or date of birth on applications, and don't give dates of education, qualifications or past employment (unless recent) either,  as all those could give away your age as well. Stick to stating how you meet the person spec, or if there isn't one, how you meet the requirements of the job you are applying for.  Also, tailor your application to the particular job/company, don't just use something which could apply to any employer. And include a brief  covering letter saying why you want this particular job and why you think you are ideally suited to it, eg say how much you love their shop and why  😀 Good luck! Don't take rejections or lack of replies  too personally, btw. Employers are often inundated with applications. Yes it's rude not to reply to every applicant, but sometimes it just may not be possible, especially for a small company.
    • When was the last time you used them?   I called them and they have a minimum charge now.  It’s clear they prefer airport runs only.   Thanks to those who recommended Rye Cars.
    • Thanks for the info. Didn’t know you don’t have to give your age!
