Earl Aelfheah
The current development work at London Bridge station will allow for more trains to run through to Charing Cross. As far as I can tell (I could be wrong on this), the exact shape of the subsequent timetable changes are yet to be decided. I am wondering therefore, whether we may have an opportunity to campaign for an extension to ED train service - through to Waterloo and Charing Cross. Does anyone know if anything is already underway in this respect? Are Southwark Council using their influence? benmorg
Great idea. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/32424-campaign-for-extension-to-ed-train-service/#findComment-646637 Share on other sites
AbDabs
Isn't this campaign just a little late - 5 maybe even 10 years too late. Works to railways have to go through an extensive governmental/public/safety approval process. Whilst the timetable may not be finalised, surely that only means at what times past the hour the trains (already programmed for that route) go, not which ones. Earl Aelfheah
I really don't know whether it's too late or not. AbDabs - do you have specific experience in this area? benmorg
Isn't the London Bridge to Charing Cross service via Waterloo East closing down soon? I'm sure I read somewhere that it's stopping for a few years. If/when it reopens, trains might be less frequent afterwards as more trains will go straight through to CX without stopping at London Bridge. Earl Aelfheah
I believe that the Charing Cross trains are not stopping at London Bridge for the next year or two as they work on the new platforms (I guess, in order to allow those services which terminate at LB to continue running by utilising platforms usually taken up by the through trains). I believe that after that period they will be reinstated however and that there may be increased capacity. Any forumites able to shed more light? How are changes to the train timetable decided? How do commuters feed in to / influence the decision making process to shape the development of our local services? Oink
Waterloo east/charing x services will return when work at London bridge is completeThere will not be a big change to the current pattern of service, just increased capacity due to the 12 car trainsThe work at LBG is for the thameslink project, as we know services via herne hill have won that battle to continue through the 'core' rather than terminate at blackfriars Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/32424-campaign-for-extension-to-ed-train-service/#findComment-646788 Share on other sites
James Barber
I think this idea is well worth exploring - I'll ask Railfuture experts who can explain what would be required. Bic Basher
The Forest Hill Society campaigned for the return of the Charing Cross service on the FH line back in 2009 when it was axed and it appears very unlikely that any Southern service will return to that section of track due to Southeastern requiring all of the slots after HS1 was launched from St Pancras. However, once the work at London Bridge is completed, the interchange will be a lot easier thanks to the track and platform separation between Thameslink and Southeastern services. Renata Hamvas
What the consensus is, that both the Sevenoaks and Herne Hill trains will run through, but with no increase from current frequency (Sevenoaks ones were due to go up to 4/hour). There may be extra ones to Blackfriars only.Renata Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/32424-campaign-for-extension-to-ed-train-service/#findComment-647599 Share on other sites
cle
Is there any news on extra trains from Denmark Hill to Victoria, especially at night?
