Has anyone been abused and shouted at by the staff at Discount Bicycles - Milkwood Road, Brixton

Recommended Posts

I went today to collect 2 bikes that I had ordered and had the misfortune of dealing with the most aggressive, rudest person I have ever encountered. I was trying to explain to the man that I did not want a scratched bike (like the one he was trying to palm me off with) but a new one, as was agreed when I ordered it the day before. My request for an unscratched bike caused the man to have an aggressive outburst and he proceeded to call me a Fu**ing pain and a Fu**ing A***hole. I have never been spoken to like that - NOT EVER!

I ignored the abuse and got into my car and drove off, in my rear-view mirror I saw that the manager had started following me out of the car park on foot, probably to try and explain what had happened and apologise for the employee who had shouted at me.

Too late! I would not recommend that anyone buy from these Muppets, who were basically trying to rip me off and clearly cannot string an intelligent sentence together unless it includes name calling and F words. I have never been so insulted and I hope this deters other women from going to the company.

I would also advise the manager/owner to employ people who don't shout and swear at customers. He lost ?500's worth of business today because he employs aggressive, uneducated staff.

I left Discount Bikes and drove straight to Brixton Cycles where I purchased 2 lovely bikes from a friendly and helpful manager who knew what he was talking about.

Write to the manager at the address of the shop. No one deserves to be abused like that and have such shoddy customer service. I'm sure the manager is pretty pissed off at losing ?500 worth of business. Poor management on his side though for employing such blockheads.
Doesn't matter whether he's the owner/manager or whatever you can't have idiots like that treating customers in such an appalling manner and I'm sure he'll be upset at losing the 500 quids worth of business. Also, explain to him in your letter that you've posted your thoughts about the contemptuous treatment you received on a local forum and he might just see some sense when it comes to the way his business is run and his customers are served.
As it happens I was there today, I only spent ?34 but the chap I dealt with was the soul of helpfulness. However, he was unable to provide one item because, he said, (in a rather downbeat tone) that the man in the warehouse had had to go home, so perhaps the horrible behaviour you experienced was noted after all.
Oh darling friends, we must always be sure to only visit Brixton in pairs, perhaps even threes, and the third person should wait in the car with the engine running. It really is not Dulwich you know...

If only you could see the way to lending out your Pashley Princess (you know, the one you bought for the charity cycle ride and has been in the garage) to an SE15=er such as myself, DM, I would not have to take my delicate and impoverished self down to an industrial estate (albeit in, actually, SE24) and haggle with sellers of discount bicycles and accessories therefor.

Ur quite right DM if it was dulwich poor Toni would probably have been chased outta the shop with a cricket bat being swung about! ;-)

Haha now now people dont b getting all ::o I'm joking! :p

Don't be stereotyping Brixton to be a bad place. I worked in the Halfords there for a bit... yes sometimes the service was a bit on the questionably side but generally it was all nice. :))

If you know what you're looking for, I cam recommend ordering bikes and kit from wiggle.co.uk http://www.bonthronebikes.co.uk or www.probikekit.com

After that use a local shop for servicing and other goods. It's definitely a good idea to purchase a few things from your local dealer, even if they can't match the price of bikes from online specialists.

good luck!

    • I hope you had it marked on the bike register.  Many stolen bikes end up on Gumtree (mine did) so check listings. https://www.gumtree.com/for-sale/sports-leisure-travel/bicycles/uk/srpsearch+condor  if the listings is a copy and paste from the bike company website that is almost definitely stolen, or details are scant.  When they talk about how long they had the bike, the sort of journeys, what they have done to maintain and improve it etc they will be genuine. I've got no advice on how to do a sting and get it back,
