It's the national day of Scotland

It's Birmingham City's football ground

It's a golf course

It's probably the name of numerous churches/cathedrals

And I'm still none the wiser!

I've only been once when they knocked Stevenage out of the FA Cup many moons ago, and can't recall any songs (or atmosphere).

T'Interweb has scant info, but apparently "shit on the villa" is popular, but the lyrical content was meagre and repetitious.

World War 2 classic Keep Right on to the End of the Road, doesn't seem to have anything that matches the clues.

Aquarius moon is correct. The small drink referred to is a "wee deoch an doris" which along with "keep right on till the end of the road" (the anthen of Birmingham City FC) were Harry Lauder's biggest hits. The very crooked thing was his walking stick which he was often pictured with.

I was looking for a fictional character rather than a real person, hence the confusion!

In the end I typed in 'gaelic drinking songs' which led me to the song above & found out it was written by the same 'Harry Lauder' who wrote the Birmingham FC song.

So I finally made the connection!

I'll be back with my first clue in the morning.

    • I had Leon over to fit a new fan, light and switch for my bathroom. He did a great job and was easy to work with + friendly and patient. Will deffo be using him again in the future. Would highly recommend !
    • Yesterday on Crystal Palace Road.  I heard it had been going on since the previous day.
    • I was at both meetings. Frankly I think there's little point to them. Gala's licence was granted in perpetuity, they make all the right noises but they are totally disinterested in the problems and damage they inflict. The map fails to include the area of park which will be set aside for a Lime bike parking area which is to be expanded this year and the area used for the Park run start/finish is within the new expanded footprint. They said there were no plans to cut down any trees BUT one has been felled near the pedestrian gate in Colyton road which would obstruct the proposed HGV track. A replacement has been planted a few metres away but that doesn't excuse cutting down a beautiful established tree. Agree that the ecological survey is utterly worthless as are a lot of other statements in the consultation documents. The 21 day timeframe doesn't include loss of space due to remedial works or the fencing off for reseeded grass to grow...which is destroyed again less than a year later. The bund and meadow planting will be inside the boundary fencing. I doubt it will survive unscathed. .
