dessie
Somebody told me that there was a record shop/music shop opening on LL but I can't find it ! any info ? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3232-record-shop-on-lordship-lane/ Share on other sites
KidKruger
Would be surprised, the last one (the closing down gallery now I think) lasted 2-3 yrs.I think it would be highly risky for SE22 given the 10's of ?1000's in business rates and property leasing. There's already a stall on saturdays down the market which covers reggae, ska and funk - good 'wrecka stow' IMO. reds
It's true - it's opeing in the basement of the cafe next to the Palmerston. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3232-record-shop-on-lordship-lane/#findComment-100627 Share on other sites
ojm
This sounds very promising... Any idea what kind of stuff it will cover? 50s esoterica and 60s psych may be a bit specialist for me to wish for, but something other than the Coldplay back-catalogue for a fiver and Ministry of Sound compilations would definitely be good to see..Was very pleasantly surprised by the CDs on offer in Roullier White, of all places.. A very limited selection, but clearly hand-picked by somebody with a keen appreciation of alt.country/power-pop, with acts like The New Pornographers and Josh Rouse that I wouldn't ever expect to find in a (what I shouldn't but can't resist describing as) basically a fancy kitchen/homeware shop.. Jah Lush
I'd love a record shop of Lordship Lane but I'm not sure if it would be financially viable for me or the owner. SimonM
I must spring - lithe as a gazelle! - to the defence of Roullier White! It is an excellent local source for cafetiere spares....Cafetieres are essential for urban survival but they do tend to have a high mortality rate, jug-wise: at least around here. Brendan
I was not being pejorative merely pointing out the appropriate nomenclature. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3232-record-shop-on-lordship-lane/#findComment-100710 Share on other sites
Ultraconsultancy
Like Jah above, I'll come, I'll buy, and I'll hope for success, but I think it's what Sir Humphrey Appleby would call "a courageous proposal, Minister". pk
it's certainly bucking the trend - the internet has killed off many of london's record shops that i've spent too much time and too much money in, but i'll certainly pop in ready to spend a bit more if they've got what the sort of stuff that i buygood luck them Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3232-record-shop-on-lordship-lane/#findComment-100877 Share on other sites
Jeremy
The rent's probably quite cheap if it's in a basement underneath a greasy spoon, which will work in it's favour. And good record shops can sometimes prosper through word of mouth rather than high street visibility... so you never know, it might work out. Brendan
And there is something inherently cool about being in the basement under a greasy spoon. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3232-record-shop-on-lordship-lane/#findComment-100950 Share on other sites

Peckhamgatecrasher
But the reason that the antiques people moved was because it was so damp. That's prob. not very good for records.
