sally buying
How many more times are they going to close Bellenden Road?Once again residents have no transport to re@ch the shops. Many of us are not able to walk or bike. Again no advanced info from Southwark Councillors or TFL.If it was not reported on the forum no one would know. Dogkennelhillbilly
Councillors aren't involved in the management or supervision of the P13 bus.The diversion must be very inconvenient for those who rely on it. Were notices applied to the bus stops? Are these emergency works on Bellenden Rd that caused the diversion? Penguin68
Quote Councillors aren't involved in the management or supervision of the P13 bus. However, as the diversion of the bus was consequent on re-surfacing works - which I think is a Council decision on roads not managed by TfL (and I think TfL would notify the Council if they were undertaking works locally except in emergency) the Council could have been in charge of news management of the impact of their works. As if they gave a damn.[i have heard that Conway actually makes those decisions, particularly at the end of the year so they can use up all their call-off contract money, but I have no idea if that is true!] Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/322605-p13-on-diversion/#findComment-1614093 Share on other sites
ctovey
There are notices on some of the bus stops, but the stops aren't covered, so it could easily be missed that they aren't in use. The road works are pretty extensive - not just resurfacing by the looks of it. sally buying
A shop keeper on Bellenden Road told me he has heard that these works could be going on to the middle of April or longer. Restocking of goods is now becoming a problem. Then when finished they will start again putting down double red lines along Bellenden Road. More chaosThis has to be the most dug up road in London. Lets see what happens Friday. How will older folks manage? Lets see what happens Friday. How will older folks manage? As an older couple with mobility issues, when we have advance warning of diversions, we can often plan our journeys accordingly. However, longer periods of diversions make life quite challenging. This week for instance, we were caught by surprise so had to travel to/from Peckham via Camberwell Green on 2 buses instead of one. And, thank goodness for home delivery of groceries! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/322605-p13-on-diversion/#findComment-1614116 Share on other sites
jazzer
The P13 seems to have suffered most over the last 18months or so being on diversion due to roadworks meaning parts of the route are not served plus the impact of the recent Abellio strikes. This time to parts of the route are being diverted due to road works, Bellenden Road and Whately and Underhill Road's. Shame they could not have done these works during the strikes. And how many times do they intend to excavate Bellenden Road, last time it was for extending pavements, road narrowing including by the primary school. All very frustrating. Not much we can do but try to find alternative ways of accessing transport, so much for the TfL slogan "every journey matters"On a seperate point I notice that when bus shelters are replaced with new one's, those that had bus waiting times displayed are not being replaced. By the cemetery on Forest Hill Road, the new stand had this new bus tracking system, however its upside down, the wonders of TfL never cease!!! spider69
After reading the postings re P13 I think we are only seeing the start of possibly losing this bus certainly from Bellenden Road in the not too distant future.Walking through this morning it appears that pavements are being widened outside the chemist side of the road, a designated cycle path is being put in narrowing the road down to just about 2 cars which which will most certainly be having double red lines. No stopping. So where will the bus stop be or shoppers stop? This will again be repeated on the following bit of Bellenden Road past Choumert Road up to Avondale Rise.So the end of April to finish all these works looks about right. This is further proof in my mind that Southwark is doing all it can to get vehicles off Southwark Roads with no real idea how it will effect people/shop owners only they must apply green dogma what ever the cost. We used to have Cllrs in the old Lane ward who listened to residents who would have understood the long term effects not any more.So if you have problems walking and do not cycle you are on a hiding to nothing. There is no alternative to help you. You will be maroonedYou will not know anything until they are done and dusted.Perhaps we need a new Cllr for the Bellenden area to keep us fully informed. Penguin68
It does seem clear to me that in many people's minds the alternative to private cars, certainly in our neck of the woods, is now 'active travel' - walking or cycling. As others have pointed out, public transport is not in the remit of the council, and indeed quite clearly their plans now simply ignore what public transport may be available to us. Private cars usage is condemned, public transport no longer forms part of the council's planning space. So if you can't walk or cycle, well, we really don't want you here... jazzer
Seems as though the roadworks on Underhill road did not commence, and all the signs saying when and how long it would last have all gone, the P13 was running on the way back this afternoon along the road. richard tudor
Just walked through Bellenden road ,traffic light controlled cars in single file, no P13 as there looks to be much more work to allow the P13 to use this part of the route.Looks like being a long time. Road narrowed a great deal. Someone said is this the end of the P13 could well be. No response from Southwark Council on this Original notice . from TfL "BELLENDEN ROAD, SE15: From 09:00 Monday 20 February until 19:00 Friday 24 February, ROUTE P13 is on diversion between Edgar Kail Way and Rye Lane in both directions via Dog Kennel Hill, Grove Vale, East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye. richard tudor
Back on original route as mentioned but Bellenden Road stop closed and still a lot of work to do. Traffic lights.Nearest one open Copleston Road. Not sure about the one at the bottom of Chadwick Road by the car park. Not sure why they have undertaken all this work as there was no need. jazzer
I'm guessing it's close to the end of the financial year and of course highways need to spend the remaining budget so they have this work done, but then I'm just speculating, maybe its a conspiracy theory, who knows. But to be serious, why was this work not done at the same time as when Conways extended the pavements by the primary school. Would have been all done in one go then. Sue
Quote I waited 70 minutes for a P13 to New Cross today although 5 went in the opposite direction while I waited! Do you have the TfL app? That may have shed some light (at the time!) . At least you could have seen when the next bus was due, and possibly why there was a problem. Also that app or Google maps could have shown you an alternative route by public transport?Too late now obviously, but maybe useful for the future?
