East Dulwich Fusion

Me to receptionist "tell me, are your phones operating? I've been trying for ages and can't get through?" Receptionist "yes they are". Me "Well I've been unable to get through to make a booking so here I am in person". Receptionist "oh no, we've been too busy to answer the phone". Almost hilarious...

Today - have been unable to get through since I've been home to book another class and the usual message about which buttons to press is also absent. Don't have time to call in person so will probably miss out on my class... Do frustrating.

Sadly, under the most recent manager this appears the norm. No one seems to care at Fusion anymore. They have the contract from the council and are complacent. I have now left as nothing seems to improve despite all the complaints.

This is the manager that fired three of his staff, petitions were signed, the ladies were excellent but he wanted them gone to put in his own people. Downhill from there.....

saw your posts and could'nt help but reply - why don't you pop in and see us @ Push Studios (behind William Rose Butchers off Lordship Lane in Blackwater St) and have a look at the classes that we do, we might be busy but never to busy to take a booking and you can also book online!

drop us an email at [email protected] (where we also take bookings!) and we'd love to meet you.

How could he fire three staff? What reason did he give them?

Does the council know about this??? I'm assuming that the contract has certain requirements re customer service etc, so if the contract holders aren't meeting them, surely their contract could be prematurely terminated?

Hi Sue,

Agree, it's an archaic term now, but he did just that. The three ladies were sent letters with 'end of employment' notice! Needless to say, they are taking it further. In relation to the council being aware, they were notified by many, many regular customers, though I'm unaware of what the result of that was (if any). It was certainly taken up by a local MP and all of this was ignored. The Manager in question actually told the three ladies they were too customer focused and needed to concentrate on sales. I see why, but there is a balance in a business and customer service in my opinion should lead the field.

I am unsure of the current status of the situation, legally, but will update if I hear.

    • Surely there is much less cash being banked these days because the vast majority of people find it much more convenient to pay by card (or phone) than to have to get out cash, carry it around, pay with it,  and then mess about with having to find somewhere to store heavy loose change. Card payment  is also much easier for the shop. And much easier for customers in a queue who don't have to wait while someone gets their purse out, counts out the money and gives it to the assistant,  who then has to count out and give them their change, which they then have to put away in their purse...  And nobody from the shop has to carry shedloads of notes and loose change to the bank or post office and queue up to pay it in. There is also less likelihood of a customer being short changed, or of  some  form of theft from the till.
    • But why ask us to book ahead? The system benefits the die-hards who hover over their keyboards and snap up the slots (and don’t always show up).
    • Sure, there is much less cash being banked these days because businesses are driven to accept card payments. They have to go to card payment because there is no local bank where they can pay in their daily take. In effect, it is a feedback loop which will result in no high street banks at all. Cash payment is really only used for paying  self-employed trades people who are evading tax.
