We're flying to Italy at the end of May and I am wondering about the practicality of taking the Bugaboo with us. We do have another buggy that we could use but it does not recline therefore it would be preferable to take the Bugaboo.

My concern is that it may get damaged as we do not have a travel bag (and don't really want to fork out for one!) so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of travelling with it or any other buggy that might influence what I do! In particular, how tolerant are they (airline/ cabin crew/ baggage handlers) of the (awkward) 2-part folding of the cameleon? Is this going to make it more likely that it will be damaged as the baggage handlers fling it around?!

Thanks for any advice/ experiences you can share!

Hi - we flew with our bugaboo bee and it did get damaged - however the airlines handling company did eventually replace the damaged chassis (although I had a damaged buggy for about 2 months before I got the replacement). If it does get damaged my advice would be to report it immediately (we did although it meant hanging around the baggage hall for a bit) and take the reference number and then follow up on it relentlessly and they should eventually replace it for you.
I had the chameleon but decided not to travel with it and got a maclaren instead which you can gate check i.e. keep with you until you board and if you are transiting anywhere you get it back for that time. In fairness I mostly had the baby in the carrier but it was helpful for my bags etc (I was travelling alone to australia).. the all in one fold on the maclaren is also great for when you are travelling, much much easier. Just a thought. Good luck and have fun! x

we did the same, an XT. also OP should bear in mind bugaboo might not in hire car boot or at least hog the whole thing!

I recently bought a Babyzen Yoyo for this reason as I didn't want my main buggy to get damaged. It's tiny and can be folded with one hand whilst holding baby, we took it onto the plane and stored it in the overhead cabins. It's great as it means we can put him into it the minute we come off the plane.

    • Yes, it would be great to see them nationalised. Along with the other water companies they seem to have a great business model: -submit a 5 year plan to the regulator asking for yearly price increases to cover the cost of improving the infrastructure and get them to approve it - carry on paying handsome dividends to shareholders and eye watering salaries to senior executives  - fail to achieve the infrastructure targets at the end of the five years, make some excuses and draw up the next plan Magic!

Agree with other comments that it is best to talk to lots of people.  Also, (not particularly related to the above agent), I wish I had read the reviews a lot more, rather than relying on numbers.  Depending on whether you are renting, letting, selling or buying the reviews often differ a lot depending on the relationship you have with the agent and it is worth checking whether the good/bad reviews match your situation.
