East Dulwich 'ED' CPZ Review - Closes 2 Jan 2023

With the recent lack of service from Royal Mail, some people may have missed receiving letters about the consultation for changes to the East Dulwich 'ED' CPZ. There was a thread here about the nearby PW (Peckham West) CPZ consultation a few weeks ago but I haven't seen one specifically for the ED CPZ changes.

I have been asked by a representative from Southwark Council to post it here just in case anyone wasn't aware.

The consultation survey is open now and closes 2 Jan 2023

Link to details and survey here: https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/ed-review/

No letter either. Given the woeful mail service the council may have to extend the consultation period.

Clearly a huge effort to extend CPZ underway.

I agree, they are obviously looking to extend days or hours

As it was supposed to deter commuters why isn't it a short one or two hours during the middle of the day ?

It is a case of shifting goalposts. They have stated they want the whole of Southwark CPZ by 2025. I think this was said at that last disgraceful council planning meeting, where Cllr Rose aka "shouter Rose" went off on one and Leader, Kieron Williams, made misleading claims about the results of recent elections giving the council a mandate.

A few years ago it was all about saving parking spaces for residents near the train station. The narrative then was that residents were being stalked by evil commuters in cars trying to snitch their parking spaces.

There will also probably be unnecessary extension of yellow lines too, sometime soon.

Surprise, suprise. Tried to fill the survey out and it would not accept my answers.

Perhaps they are trying to limit answers to only those living within the CPZ area?

If I recall, anyone, even those living in other boroughs (cycle groups) were able to participate in support of CPZ.

Anyhow, there is a technical glitch with this survey and it is not working as it should.

Admin, could you perhaps let the council know, since they asked you to post it?

The questions ask about the CPZ in 'your area', so it sounds like they only want responses from those who live in the roads listed. I didn't have a problem filling it out, no glitches for me.

Well, if that is the case it should be clearly stated. Do you live on a CPZ road in the yellow area?

In the box for roads, it says if your road is not listed put it in.

I live in ED "the area" affected by CPZ and my road is contiguous with a road that is affected by CPZ. Therefore, if say hours are extended and there is overspill my road is/will be affected.

I think if only those in the yellow area are consulted it is pretty disingenuous and many roads in ED are affected by CPZ even if their road is not a CPZ.

Once more, when the council was looking for support for CPZ literally anyone in the Borough could participate and respond.

Nope, it's working fine for me. Problem may be at your end.

DKHB,

Maybe my end. But what could cause it? Did you reply by phone, or laptop? I'm on a notebook.

Are you inside the yellow area and is your street on the list? If it is only those within the yellow area who can reply we need to know.

Working fine for me (laptop, Chrome browser).

There's a drop down list which covers the roads within the CPZ and a sentence saying "if your road is not listed, please put your road in the box below" and you can type in anything, it's freetext.

It's a way of easily separating out inside and outside CPZ but it allows anyone to respond.

Hope that helps.

  • 1 month later...

Just a FYI, CPZs came up in this week’s overview and scrutiny committee meeting going through next year’s budget, seems pretty clear that there will be a borough wide roll out over the next two years.

1:48:30 ish onward.

They seem to be forecasting £1.3 million extra in CPZ and parking enforcement income next year, even though this is slightly randomly described as savings from Active Travel (it’s listed in the income generation document so I think it is actually additional income).

Not quite sure what the point of the consultations are when income is already included in the budget? Presumably the amounts budgeted take account of timed restrictions? If you have longer timed restrictions on your street do you pay more/ less than shorter ones? I have no idea...
