    • Hi there - we've just bought a Victorian terraced, and the carpet is in a dire state on the whole top floor. Underneath appears to be wood flooring (underflooring?), but in a pretty bad state and the floorboards are quite far apart, etc. Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a floor specialist who could come round and tell us whether it's best to restore the old floor, or give up and replace it. Ideally, they would obviously be able to do either at competitive rates. Thanks! * Picture 1 is the floor, and picture 2 is with a smallpatch sanded to see what it wears down to.
    • Thames Water is at the High Court today trying to get a £3bn loan extension sorted. If it isn't then they will go bust and go into administration (actually it's more complex than that). If I was a contractor supplier to them I might well not be doing work I might not be paid for until that's sorted.  Doesn't help us ordinary Joe's who just live in their bailiewick of course. But who cares about us?
    • There's quite a solid one just been dumped on NX rd, near L Lane
    • Last week the started painting new double yellow lines along the EDG near the junction with DV. They could not finish the job as a car was parked there. It was there Monday thro' Friday. The contractors came back today with a hoist truck and lifted the car onto the back of the truck and I fully expected to see the truck drive off and take the car to the pound.  .But no, the truck parked up further along and then the yellow lines were duly painted. With that job done the truck driver off-loaded the car exactly where it was previously. Isn't that gratifying Very gratifying. It's been there now for 3 hours and hasn't had a ticket.
