Honest opinions - Your GP Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I need to register with a GP surgery in the SE22 area. I live just off Lordship lane.

The distance is not the main priority here for me. It is the ability to receive an appointment, friendliness of staff and services.

I see the comments left on NHS Choices for surgeries in the SE22 area but am scepticle. I know whilst some comments may be from genuine patients some may be from the staff or GP's who run the surgieries, trying to put false comments on just how good they are so their rating increases.

Please can I ask for your comments on what you think of your GP surgery and how they have treated you. Have you had long delays with appointments? I see the thread on there about Dulwich Medical Centre and the delays with appointments but as I am not joined to any surgery yet, would like a view of all those in the are to help make my assessment.

Thank you for you help.

I use the Gardens surgery and have always been very pleased with them. As surgery receptions go, they are relatively friendly, and I can normally get to see my requested doctor, Dr Cliffe, who I think is excellent. Dr Addo also very good, if a little abrupt and insensitive at times. I can usually get an appointment within 48 hours, and whenever I have called for an appointment for my son (2.5), I have always got a same-day appointment, even if I haven't called the second the phones open. They have also helped me out with repeat prescriptions and on the whole I feel that they are accomodating and friendly. Waiting area is clean and comfortable, and the nurses are great there too. Hope that helps.

I can only say good things about the Gardens surgery who are my elderly relative's doctors. This has come from seeing how well they have looked after the relative as a patient, this has been through accompanying my relative to appointment's. They always go the extra mile, when really ill they visted within an hour of calling and arranged for admission to hospital, when she came out they have provided on going care.

Shame my own doctors at the Forest Hill Road Group Practice can't learn some lessons on how to provide good patient care.

The Gardens seems to be the only surgery around here that people say positive things about. Gallingly I live about 20 metres the wrong side of Lordship Lane to be in their catchment area. So for now I am stuck with the unmitigated disaster that is Dulwich Medical Centre. Ho hum.

Basically avoid Dulwich Medical Centre. I have nothing good to say about it. I am going to leave as soon as the couple of referrals I have to specialists come to a conclusion.

For what its worth, I'd echo previous comments regarding the Gardens.

In terms of what's important, the GPs themselves are right up there, and in my experience they're all very good. They seem to coordinate appointments about as well as any other surgery I've ever attended.

Thanks for posting this question, I've been wondering the same.

My partner, son and I have been with Herne Hill GP for almost 6 years and always go to see the excellent Dr Lamb. We've lived in ED for 3 years and have only managed to keep our places at the surgery because we still own the smaller property we moved from in HH... apparently if we lived a few more metres away we'd still be in their cachment area, it's ridiculous that you can't have a choice!

We're looking to sell the other place and will therefore lose our beloved Dr Lamb, so I'm grateful for the recommendations for the Gardens GP and will go check them out.

I think they recently widened their catchment so you may now be within it. You can always ring them to check, as you never know..

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. The Garden Surgey definatley seems to have made a great impression with all. I visited their website and the map indicating their catchment area and I am in the same situation as Ednewmy for being the wrong side of Lordship lane!! I will investigate following the comment from Callie - hopefully they will take me.

Are there any comments members wish to add about any other surgeries in the area, just incase?

Thank you all for your comments. They are extremely useful.
